Chlamydia

I know I have not strayed from my marriage but in January I had a pap done and it came back negative for ALL std's including Chlamydia.  BUT I recently found out I am pregnant (second child-first is healthy and I had all negative testing for std's) and had the entire work up done and came up positive for Chlamydia.  My husband says he has not strayed.  He also said that a girlfriend he had about 10 years ago had it and was treated but he does not think he was ever treated because he had no symptoms.  I guess my question is "Is it possible that the last 4 years we have been together I have NEVER contracted it from now until just recently? or Would he have had to get it from someone since January (when my pap was done and NEGATIVE) and give it to me between now and then?

That article was just indicating that people with chlamydia can experience spontaneous resolution, which is to say that their body takes care of the bacteria over time, without antibiotics.

I'm very hesitant to believe that Chlamydia clears itself. The only place I've ever read that statement is on these forums by Dr. HHH. I've never seen that statement anywhere else and I've even seen statements by researches saying that it cannot be fought off by the body without treatment. So I don't know why the doc says it can go away on its own.

I am confused, are you saying Chlamydia cures itself.   I have been worried about some recent ill feelings.  Maybe Anxiety, I think swollen nodes in neckck aching behind knees etc.  Had a negative HIV after having shingles.  Was beginning to think an STD was cause of ill feeling.  If my possible exposure was 15 months ago and my DR. says all my regular WBC is normal should I go the STD route.

Unless you had a "liquid pap," just a plain pap smear is not an especially reliable test for detecting STDs.  The test you took for your pregnancy might have been more accurate and picked up the already existing infection.

Also, although it's true that most people would clear chlamydia by 6 months on their own, a few people have posted on this forum who have carried it longer than that.

Chlamydia can heal itself without treatment but goes thru some tedious symptoms and sometimes severe problems and it never stays for 4 yrs. I don't think chlamydia will even become present 6 months after sex.  Symptoms and the infection usually becomes present around a week more or less, i forget.  anyway,  I have no idea where you could be getting this infection unless one of you 2 strayed  but as you said none of you 2 did. so it's a big mystery. Well, I'd just be  thankful you can treat it. You might want to explain the situation to your Dr that tested you in Jan to see what's going on. I'd be curious to know what they say.
