Concerned, different feelings in my penis

Well here we go, maybe this will help put my mind at ease...Just recently (Tuesday) I had unprotected sex with a girl I've been dating for the past few years. This was our first time having unprotected sex (my first time ever having unprotected) as she recently started birth control pills. I know she has no STDs and is a clean individual. Just about a week ago, after some drinking, I had relations outside of our relationship w/ a pro. I only received oral for which I used a condom. She placed my covered penis at her vagina and attempted to insert, I stopped her and told her i wasn't interested. I havent had any symptoms until the day after I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend. Symptoms seem to be a mild burn at the tip of my penis / end of my urethra. There is a little bit of redness around the opening of my urethra but doesnt seem extreme. I have no discharge, no odd bumps, no lesions. I've been taking multi-vitamins and drinking water, today it seems to be more of a tingle feeling/dull pain. Its not terribly painful, just uncomfortable. I dont seem to have a major appetite either, may be anxiety. I cant see my physician until monday. I appreciate your help...

It would be most unusual for prostatitis to cause discoloration of your penis and, to be honest, prostatis is unusal in men of your age.  The medications you were iven were directed at other causes of urethritis in men and should be curative for gonorrhea, chlamydia and nongonococcal urethritis.  EWH

Dr Hook,

Just got in from my physician....He diagnosed me with prostatitis (bacterial, i presume) and prescribed me some antibiotics. 1 500mg of Levaquin and 100mg Doxycycl HYC to take 2x daily. He also took a urinalysis which he didn't really feel was necessary for STD screen but said he would screen it. Would prostatitis make my penis get purpleish at times? How does this all sound to you? Thanks

All of your symptoms could be due to either anxiety or urethritis.  As I said most "urethritis" diagnosed in men under 40 turns out to be  NGU, if anything.  If your doctor decides to treat you, I would be most interested in hearing what the OBJECTIVE findings are that lead him/her to do so.  Good luck.  Please let us know what the doctor says.  EWH

I'll be going to my GP tomorrow, but...I have the urge to urinate frequently (esp right after emptying my bladder), bladder doesnt feel totally empty, I have pressure in my lower abdomen and low back feel a little sore. I feel tired and run down even after hours of sleep. These all seem like symptoms of a UTI/bladder infection from what ive read....Your saying there is no chance that I have a UTI? These obviously don't seem to be symptoms of any STDs...?

No, normal men under 40 just about never get UTI's.  Sadly, doctors sometimes say that becasue it is easier than dealing with STDs, partner treatment, guilt, etc.  EWH

Thanks doc, I appreciate your reassurance...symptoms seem to be a discomfort in my urethra and like i said before nothing really visual. My stream is weak when i urinate and   feel like i have to pee again right after i finish. Is it possible i caught a UTI from my girlfriend from unprotected vaginal sex? The discomfort seems to come and go and seems to be more of an itchy kind of feeling? I'll be making an appt w/ my GP for Monday afternoon if it doesnt go away by than.

My guess is that your guilt and anxiety is speaking to you.  You know you did not get anythng from your GF so the question we need to address is what could you have gotten from the (proper term) commercial sex worker (CSW) and what should you do about it.  Let's start with what you should worry about from your exposure.  No- you had a single protected oral exposure.  For starters, condoms work, thus your exposure was no risk.  Furthermore had the condom not worked (this really is not a concern) or had you not been protected (you were), your risk would have been primarily for getting either gonorrhea or a syndrome called non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) which presents a burning an/or discharge from the penis.

My assessment, you are not at risk for STD from any of the exposures you describe.  You do not need testing and and have nothing to worry about.  I suspect if you explain the entire situation to your doctor, he/she will agree and tell you something similar.

Hope this helps.  Let us know if your doctor says something else.  EWH
