Conflicting test results - HerpesSelect and Western Blot

by sunshine180, Dec 03, 2008 11:47PM
Several years ago as a precaution, I was tested for herpes with the HerpesSelect test as part of a full STD screen.  I did not have any symptoms and had not been involved in any behaviour that would have put me at risk of contracting herpes.  To my surprise, I tested positive for HSVII.  I had the test done again and I tested positive again.  Several months later, I had a western blot test done and the results came back negative.  I had a second western blot test done a few months later and again it was negative.   I'm confused about what these results mean.  I've read that the ELISA is more sensitive but the Western blot is more specific.  Am I HSVII positive or negative?  I still have never had any signs of Herpes.

Can you post the exact results?  You should have numerical values to each herpeselect test.

It will read something like HSV2  IgG 4.6 (yours will have different numbers).

Also, if you are positive for hsv1, it will help to know that as well.
