Could this be due to Yeast?

Dear Doctor,

I posted first time on the Aug19th and my question was answered. My HIV worry was answered and I have a question about a yeast infection.
I had protected oral and vaginal sex with a sex worker in Spain on the 7-8th of June. Since then, I have had some STD tests done.

My initial symptoms included frequent urination but that went away after a week and burning sensation when urinating. On the 5th day I felt weak and tired all the time.

I did a urine (PCR) test on the 10th of June that tests for Chlamydia, Gono, Mycro,Urea, Trichomonas v, Gardneralla v, herpes1/2. All came negative. I also did following tests.

1) 10 Day HIV 1 PCR/DNA (negative)
2) 24 Day HIV 1 PCR/DNA (negative)
3) 28 Day HIV1/2 p24 (negative) , Syphilis, Hep B surface Ag, Mycroplasma, Ureaplasma, Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea - All negative
4) 45 Day HIV1/2 p24 (negative), Syphilis (negative)

During the whole period I lost 10% of my weight which i think is due to stress. I also had thrush on my pubis and testicle sack. I was prescribed Canesten when I had thrush on pubis and Trimovate to treat thrush on testicle sack (doctor told that the skin was broken and i needed something anti bacterial). I think thrush went away mostly but I am still uncertain - it sometimes hurts but no itching and on close examination I can see the skin is slightly red. My urethra is frequently inflammed - slightly enlarged and redish. No pain when urinating though. I feel that I have little energy and the sore throat comes and goes.

Could the feeling in urethra be caused by thrush that was not picked up by the tests? Can I treat urethra with trimovate cream and/or canesten if it is indeed thrush that doesnt go away?

Should I test again for Trichomonas v, Gardneralla v, herpes1/2 to see if i have NGU? (I did those tests 2-3 days post exposure on the 10th June when exposure was on the 7-8 June.)

Thanks alot

You (and maybe your doctor) are confused about yeast and other fungal infections.  Most such infections in pubic area are due to non-yeast kinds of fungus.  Such infections occur in everybody from time to time, and in some unlucky people all the time.  Having such a problem is not a marker of immune deficiency and does not suggest HIV.

You do not have HIV and are not apparently at risk for it.  Apparently my reassurance about it is doing no good.  That's too bad, because I tried to help.  But now I am through trying.  Please no more comments on this thread, and do not start a new thread with the same questions.

Hello again,
I would like to follow up with the most recent information. I would like to know your oppinion.
Firstly, I actually showed a patch and the doctor said it was yeast (thrush, jock itch). And I was using cream (Canesten and Trimovate) after evaluation/prescription.

I went to the Urologist and he checked for fungal infections (swab, and urine). There was no fungi found (I was worried that I had a coating on the foreskin) but leikocites in urine were high and I did ultrasound on kindeys, bladder and prostate. Prostate and bladder was OK but they found "sand" in kidneys. I should mention that I felt pain in kidneys while I am standing earlier. I also feel pain in the knees but dont know who to ask about it. I am suspecting that there is inflamatory process going on but don't know where it is.

I also have my eyes (eyelids) slightly inflamed  - doctor said that it can be due to immunologic problem (weak immune system). He prescribed antibiotic drops and anti-allergy tablets.

These visits to the doctors get me worried more than before the visits. Sometimes I feel that my body is falling apart. I am quite sure that most of the symptoms are directly related to stress but should I visit immunologist/ do immunology tests?

Thank you

You asked the same questions in your previous thread August 16 and Dr. Hook replied.  Your test results are definitive and therefore it is unlikely that any STD is the cause of your continuing symptoms.  "Thrush" is not an STD, and in any case that is not something you can self-diagnose.  No STD expert would have requested all the tests you had, which suggests to me that you have been trying to manage your problem by online advice and testing, without professional evaluation.

Neither this forum nor any other online service is a substitute for direct medical care, and I certainly will not comment on the specific treatment advice you ask about.  And I see no need for any additional testing, but that's as far as my specific advice can go.  Please seek professional attention.  Some of your terminology suggests you may be in the UK or other commonwealth nation (e.g., use of "thrush", which is not usually used in North America for such symptoms).  Please see an STD knowledgeable health care provider, such as an NHS GUM clinic if you are in the UK.  I will be happy to comment further when you return to report the results of professional evaluation, but not until then.  This advice is truly in your best interest.

Good luck---  HHH, MD
