Could this have been a Chancroid?

This is a follow up on a 11/04 entry.  I had the swab test and a test for HIV - AB.  All were negative - I had unprotected sex with risky female in late August of 2004 - I went and got tested in late January 05.  Just making sure enough time for the HIV test - It was just about 5 months after encounter I got tested.  I remember having a pretty big bump in the pubic hair region and it was like a zit and it was itchy. I can still see a tiny red spot where the bump was - not raised but can see it clearly.  You explained in the earlier entry this was an irritated hair follicule.  I had this about 2 days after the encounter.  I did have sex with girl before - protected vaginal but unprotected anal about 2 or 3 weeks earlier.  I am worried this may be chancroid related to syphilis.  I never got tested for this and was wondering if I need to get tested now.  I also had unprotected anal sex and "went" inside.  About a month after the encounter I could not stop yawning during the day and continue to do so today.  One side of my neck seems to be swollen - its like a hot dog is sticking out on the left side of my neck - and it seems like my pubic region is swollen also - scared these were lymph nodes but the doctor at clinic said they were not when they were felt.  Could this excessive yawning be caused by syphilis and/or the swollen neck and pubic region.  Also what about hepatitis? - Should I get tested for anything else? - Thanks Doc very good site with helpful information.

Your symptoms didnt' sound like STD (chancroid or any other) then and they don't sound like STD now.  Chancroid generally occurs on the penis itself, not the pubic area--and in the U.S. fewer than 50 cases are reported each year, most of those aquired overseas.

See a health care orivuderr about your symptoms, but accept the reassurance when s/he also says you don't have an STD.  I know of no disease characterized by excessive yawning, except being sleepy--or unusually anxious or stressed.

Good luck--- HHH, MD
