Crabs

by Mickeymac5872, Dec 19, 2007 03:16AM
Hi Doctor
I recently noticed my pubic region itching, and looked on line about what could be causing this.  Many websites talked about crabs, but I know it couldn't be that because I have not has sexual contact in 2 years with anyone (because Im a nervous wreck about STD's).  Well, after seeing pictures of crabs, I examined myself closely and found crabs.  Needless to say, I was completely freaked out.  In my research, most websites state you can only get crabs by sexual contact and close contact with others who have it (such as lying next to a person or sharing clothes)  I have not done any of this.  I do work in the Veterinary field and work with a lot of neglected dogs who come in with fleas, ticks, scabies, etc.  One website (New York Healt Dep website) states that dogs can be a carrier of crabs in humans, but all the other websites state dogs cannot transmit pubic lice to people.  Have you ever heard of this and if not, do you have any other ideas of how I could have contracted pubic lice?  Thanks for your time

you can also get crabs by sitting on public toilets, using towels or even batheing for instance like spending the night over a friends/relative house. i"ve never heard of the other situations about the dogs but retrace your steps and c if maybe u did the following: shared clothes, towels even if they are clean, bathtubes, toilets.
