Do I have Herpes...or any related STD?

by RL9, Aug 08, 2009 06:06AM
I am a 19 yr old male and have been sexually active since the age of 16. I've only had sexual intercourse with two partners but have received oral sex from 6. I occasionally get my self checked out to see if i'm ok which always turns out to be a "yes". But for some time now I've been having "pimple-like" bumps in my groin region which are able to be busted in which after they go away. I brushed it off *** ingrown hair follicles since i do shave my groin area. But it happens more often now. And just recently I had an over-sized hard lump in my groin area on the left side in between my thigh and my penis in the crease area. I did research and i believe it is a lymph node but i don't fully understand how it developed or what may have caused it. It comes and goes in the matter of a week to two weeks. About 6 months ago a girl performed oral sex on me and she told me ahead of time that she was just getting over a cold sore on her lip (the scar was still visible) so i didn't think it was a big deal. But i learned that you can easily contract genital herpes this way (at the time i had no clue) so herpes is always the major thing on my mind when i see the slightest pimple or swollen lymph node in my groin area. I'm not sure if it's herpes since i don't believe I've had any other serious side effects but the thing is that "i'm not sure." Could it be herpes...or any other related STD? Cancer? Anything serious?

It seems possible you could be right.  HSV1 infection in the genitals is mild. But outbreaks are usually more rare than if you had HSV2.  It is nothing that is going to kill you so get that out of your mind.  Go to the doctor the next time you get a pimple to have it analyzed.  Do not pop it.  And please, refer any other questions about herpes to the herpes forum.  They are best at answering your questions.
