Do I have an STD or something else?

Do I have an STD or something else?

Ok, so I had unprotected sex (and oral sex) on Friday from 2am until about 5:30am. Afterwards, I promptly passed out from exhaustion and drunkeness. At 1pm, when I woke up, aside from being hung over, I had a sore throat (and flegm in my throat, kept having to swallow).  Saturday, my throat was worse, the glands in my neck started to swell, and I started to feel slight irritation in my penis. Sunday, I felt very tired, swollen neck still, sore throat, I was very hot, and penis more irritated. Monday, still tired (got plenty of sleep though), sweating all night, penis still irritated, throat still swollen. I feel similar today, not so tired though, but I still don't have any sores or dripping or anything. I do have swelling around my genital area, but I already had prostatitis, that actually started after I last had sex (1yr ago). This is almost exactly the same way I felt after the last time I had sex (though last time it was much worse), and although at some point I diagnosed myself with every STD there was (they all seem to have similar symptoms), I ended up having nothing but an inflamed prostate (which made me VERY sick). I have been feeling sick for about 4 days now and still have no sores or anything else to speak of, so I'm trying to figure out whether I actually caught something or if I just re-irritated my already inflamed prostate and it is making me feel sick again.  Also, if it were an aggravation of my prostatitis, could it make the tip of my penis irritated still?  I've used this site before and I appreciate any help or suggestions you can give me.

Your sore throat and swollen neck glands aren't due to any infection you acquired during that sexual exposure; they came on too fast for that.  Sounds more like a garden-variety respiratory viral infection.

As for your genital symptoms, all I can suggest is that you get re-checked by the provider who took care of your "prostatitis" last time; or visit your local health department STD clinic.  (Prostatitis in quotes because most prostatitis actually is nongonococcal urethritis [NGU]; true prostatitis is rare in sexually active younger men.)

Good luck--- HHH, MD

Thank you!!  I thought they came on too quickly...  I swear, the next day I felt sick.  The day after that, really sick (hey, I still feel sick...  go figure...).  Then I just started getting really worried and paranoid (I tend to do that, especially after questionable sexual encounters which would beg the question, "why engage in them then?").  The answer to which is, because I am young, stupid, and tend to drink 3/4 of a fifth of Grey Goose vodka and half a bottle of Pucker in a single evening...  Honestly, although usually I take mostly psychological reinforcement away from this site, I must say that at times, it's exactly what I need; somebody who actually knows what's going on telling me to calm the hell down for a second.  Which, naturally, is why I take a trip on over to the donation page each time I ask a question.  Speaking of which, do you have any thoughts on what I should do to make myself feel a little better, (as far as my throat is concerned, that is...  Oh, and the fever too...)?  The burning on the penis seems to be subsiding somewhat today.  Actually, I remembered that I had once been diagnosed with "eczema" in that area (eczema is in quotes because none of the medicines that they ever gave me to treat that particular condition ever worked, the only thing that worked, naturally, was baby powder from the store, which I promptly applied this morning and seem to be benefiting from).  Thank you very much for your help!!!  Oh, and I have been reading other posts about getting herpes by performing oral sex on a girl, and was wondering why it is that there is such a low risk attributed to that activity?  Strangely, I'm never content with simply knowing the answer, I always want to know why it's true as well...  Thank you again!
