Do I have an STD?

by florida1952, Nov 08, 2009 01:08PM
I am a bi-sexual male in my late 50s and I had unprotected oral sex with another man around October 14.  I had unprotected oral (give and receive) and vaginal sex with my wife around Oct 21 and oral (give and receive) only on Nov 1.  On around Nov 2-3 I began to feel a burning sensation during urination.  On Nov 5 I received a prescription for Avelox 400mg for an unrelated illness and took it on the 5th and 6th.  I read that Zithromax works better for stds and, to be safe, I had a doctor friend write me a prescription for the 5 day, 6 pill course on Zithro with a refill (he recommended starting the refill 5 days after finishing the first course).  My wife began Zithro on November 5 for another unrelated illness.  She had her annual OB/GYN exam on November 5 as well (the illness is not OB/GYN related).

How likely is it that I contracted an STD (I am awaiting results of an anonymous test for gonorrhea and chlamydia)?
How likely is it that I passed it to my wife?
Would a routine annual OB/GYN check up for a 50-something year old woman normally include any tests that could detect an std?
If we both did contract one, how likely would the anti-biotic treatment mentioned above be to cure it.

You need to pay attention to responses.  Also, you will have to wait on your results. We cannot diagnose you on the internet.  To add to my previous response, NGU is also a common infection found in men.  From what I have seen, it happens a lot from oral sex.  NGU is a bacterial infection that cannot be determined as chlamydia or gonorrhea.  Please stop trying to get definitive answers on the internet.  Only proper lab testing will help in determining whether or not you have an std.

And please, always use some type of protection during oral, vaginal, and anal sex.  It isn't fair that your partners get something from you because of your sexual preferences.  What if someday you encounter a person with HIV, get it and pass it?
