Doctor I Am in desperate need of help

by sam6386, Jul 02, 2009 09:51PM
First off this had all started a little over a month ago.I went to the doctor with swollen Lymph Nodes in my neck(under my jaw) and swollen tolsils(very severe) I was scared this could be something else because I was very stupid and engaged in a lot of 1 time unprotected vaginal/oral sex with a few (3) people about 5 or 6 months ago then stopped had unprotected vaginal sex/oral with an ex who was a virgin (about 3 months ago was last encounter) and recently (since April) with my boyfriend now. I know I am very stupid but it happened and I need honest answers. When I had gotten the swollen Lymphnodes and Tonsilitious I was also veryyy achy and just didnt feel well. I also had some pain on my right side (abdominal pain) stiffness in neck for a long time and back aches upper and lower. I also had discomfort between my  stomach and pelvic region more on the right side but sometimes on left. Recently I had vaginal discharge and my OBGYN says it was ovulation eventhough it was very long and stringy (only happened once at night) and a tiny tiny bit the next morning. When I had first went to my doctor (normal physician) about a month ago as I stated earlier I also told her to check all over for other swollen nodes and she said she cannot feel anything else. I also told her to check for STDS when I had gotten the bill I was only checked for HSV1/2 and HIV 1 and 2. Which came back negative on 5-29-09 I believe. She had also taken regular blood at the office and said it was an indicator that I had a bacteria. I told her to check for other things. She had checked for Lymes Disease which came back positive (I have absolutley no rash or recollection of any rash ever)  This is why I think it is something else. I am so parranoid you have no clue.on 6-4-09 which was about 3 weeks after my last unprotected sexual exposure (before these symptoms arrived) GYNO says she tested for STDs but were NEG could it be the tests were done too soon?could I not have Lyme and have an STD,HEP? GON?

Getting evaluated and tested for STDs after unprotected sex with multiple partners was exactly the right thing to do.  You have now been seen by at least two doctors, tested thoroughly and examined by the doctor who was able to tell you that you do not have swollen lymph nodes.  Your tests for gonorrhea, chlamydia and other STDs are conclusive both in terms of timing and in terms of the reliability of the tests.  The tests you report do show that you do not have an STD-believe them and try your best to stop worrying.

As for the Lyme disease test, it may well have been a false positive test.  Lyme disease tests are sometimes helpful for persons who have symptoms compatible with Lyme disease but your symptoms are not suggestive.  The blood tests for Lyme disease also have a very high false positive rate so, unless there are other reasons for your to be concerned about Lyme disease that your doctor is aware of, this may not be a concern.

If you continue to have health problems work with your doctor to sort them out but do not worry that you have an STD

Hope this helps.  EWH

I was also thinking could I have a false positive on my Lymes disease test? and could it actually be something else ( Hepititis, gonnoreah? HIV?) does this sound like either one of those? I am really freaking out. I think I am vaccinated for Hep. (was not tested though) but I don't know if it was all of them or one specific kind. What do my symptoms sound like?  I know its too early (after 2 weeks the blood test was taken) and after 3 weeks the pap smear and other infections I was tested for, would 3 weeks be conclusive for gonorreah? chlamydia? all of the tests they normally do in a pap smear? or should I test again? If I had something and developed symptoms would it normally come up positive by now?

Thank you very much for your help... but I have not gotten tested for Hepititas...do you by any chance think this can be it? Would a liver problem show up on a normal blood test from a physician? Because I have had pain from whenever I could remember on my upper right side when doing excersize, especially walking fast or in the gym. This has seemed to bother me a little more now then usual even when I am not doing excersize and my left side is a tiny bit bothersome. Also where my stomach ends and pelvic area begin have bothered me again more on the right side but a little on the left. (When I move or cough more so) but still in general. (Not pain per/say but bothersome. And the other day for 2 bowl movements I had blood in the rectum but then it had stopped... could this be a sign of Hepititis? would this had given me a false positive on the Lyme? I don't know if you know about Lyme but my bands are 23 postive in the IgM and 41 positive in both IgM and IgG. I have heard 23 is very specific to Lyme when 41 can/or cannot be specific. Would really appreciate your advice. Thank you.

Your questions are beyond the scope and purpose of this site.  Rather I would suggest you to discuss these concerns with your doctor who has an opportunity to examine you and, if appropriate, perform additional tests.   A few comments however:

Your risk of hepatitis froms exual transmission is verly low.  There are many causes of hepatitis and this is best evaluated by your doctors.

False positive results occur for vitually all types of blood tests and have many, many causes.  Even so, most false positves are un-explained.  I am not an expert in Lyme Disease and suggest you discuss this with your doctor or an infectious diseases specialist who works regularly with Lyme disease.  I urge you to stay off the internet in relationshiop to your lyme disease tests - there is much mis-information there.   Sorry,  I don't have more for you on this.  EWH

Sorry just one additional question...so Hepatitis from sexual transmission is very low? How low? from oral giving and recieving and unprotected vaginal intercourse (me being female) because I have read that you can get this from unprotected sexual intercourse and/oral unprotected (Hepititis A B and C being most common.) I am not always using condoms for intercourse and am deathly afraid to get anything. again thank you for your fast and lengthly responses it is very much appreciated and I hope that you won't mind answering those last questions I had just posted.

Your questions are really a bit over the top.  There are not specific answers to the sorts of questions you are asking.  Hepatitis A is passed by fecal -oral transmission so unless you had contact with your partner's rectum, no risk.  Hepatitis C is almost never transmitted sexually among heterosexuals unless you have had rectal sex which you did not mention - even if you had, the risk is vanisihingly low.  As for hepatitis B, the disease is rare and thus unless you have some reason to worry that your partners had hepatitis B, this is not a risk either.  Instead of asking anxiety-driven questions, if you are worried get tested.  Then in the future used condoms.  End of discussion.  EWH

I appreciate all of your help and advice. I had just gotten vaccinated today for Hep A and Hep (I already had all of the vacinnes) and C I had just been tested for. No I did not come into contact with anyones rectum no anal sex or anything like that what so ever. But I did do unprotected oral give/recieve and unprotected vaginal intercourse. Isn't this still a risk? sorry It just seems like it would be if *** came in contact with my mouth and or vagina wouldn't this be a means for transmission?

I stated the facts and will not repeat them.  As I said before, this post is over.  It is time for you to move on.  Further anxiety-driven questions will be deleted without comment. EWH
