Does this sound like Herpes? Please Help, Grace?

by sonervous72, Jul 02, 2007 12:00AM
Week 1
2-3 days after potential proctected (Condom) exposure was redness around the opening of urethra and a burning pain if something was touching it.

Week 2

Continued redness and pain near opening of urethra, some slight swelling and discoloration of inside of urethra. Dr. Put me on Cipro 500mg 2x a day. Went on a 15 mile bike ride and 2hrs later right side of penis shaft skin swelled up which lasted for 4 days of being red and sore, went down after 1% cortizon cream. Swelling was aprox the size of a quarter.

Week 3

Burning and itching continued to move to differnt places on my penis shaft and head. Lasting about 3/4 days on any one particular spot. Plainful when pants or underwear rubbed against it, especiall when walking. Dr. Gave Nystatin cream.

Week 4
Continued burning and itching aroung various parts of the penis. Still no noticible sores or lesions. Various red and miscolored areas (DARKER skin color)around where it is sore on the shaft and head of the penis. Pain seems diffuse to many areas at once on the penis.

Week 5
Still some burning and itching on specific parts of the penis. The parts that hurt are generally smaller than the size of a pencil eraser and are slightly more red that the rest of the skin. Still applying Nystatin. Opening of the urethra is still red and seems to be getting more irritated because it is increasingly sore.

Week 6
Opening of urethra is still red and sore. Urethra sore when ejaculating but not so much when urinating. Parts of penis head and shaft very sensative to the touch with redness and discoloration. Still applying nystain. IGG neg at week 3 for Hsv 2.No noticible sores or blisters. At times it is very painful and it has been persistent pain for the 6 weeks. Hurts less at the times I am not thinking about it which is hard to do.

What the hell could this be. Grace or someone that may have a clue what this is or isn't, please help. Does this sound like Herpes and do outbreaks last this long with this kind of presentation.

This doesn't sound like herpes is the issue behind it all. Have you been back to the doctor's recently for a further work up?

Wish I had more to add but the basics have already been covered so it's time for a further work up.

Hope you get answers and relief soon!

Went to a urologist yesterday and still no definitive answer. stated that my urine looked clean and stated that visibly it did not look like Herpes. Also told me that herpes does not tend to last as long as I have had symptoms or that it does not jump around to different parts of the penis every couple of days. (not sure if this is true or not, i don't know how well the dr. is familiar with std's). The Dr. put me on doxycycline 100mg 2x a day for 10 days and pyridiam (bad spelling) for the pain. The Dr. thinks that it may be some type of urithritis. Would that cause all the external skin problems?

If anyone has any other suggestions, please help. I hate it when dr.'s are non-specific about what they are treating you for. But I will have to wait and see of things will get better with this.

No herpes doesn't give you randomly moving pains either.  I totally agree that this isn't herpes. It's time to put the possibility of herpes to rest I think.

Why not also follow up with a dermatologist appointment too?  they can do a simple skin scraping and look for yeast/fungus under the microscope too.

Thanks for the help. I will try and do that. It is just driving me crazy because different parts of my penis have been burning as if the skin were raw and it has been jumping around to different parts of my penis. I just want it to get better because at times it really hurts. When I get more information I will post it so that the info may help someone else.

Just wanted to state that I have had the same problem for three years now, and it is DEF not Herpes. I also had an HSZ 2 test, and it was negative. It lies in the immune response of the skin in that area. Perhaps you are eating something, perhaps your skin is attacking itself. It won't kill you that is for sure, and it is a little weird to tell your partner that you have something that is red and looks like herpes and itches but isn't, but they will get over it. DOO NOTTTTT WORRY. Just think positive, be healthy, and don't overdo the anxiety.
