Dormant HPV??

by mamabearsam, Nov 08, 2009 04:39PM
Hello,

Recently I found ONE small pen tip size painless (no itchy) bump on the moist part of the lip on my vagina. I am fearful that this could be a wart. I have obsessed over it over the past few days and pinched it to the point i made it bleed. Of course, the bump has changed and become irritated. My husband and I recommitted ourselves to eachother six years ago after both having relationships with other people, we decided to get a STD check up. So a year later we got tested, all came back negative, including a herpes select blood test. We have since had another child and I am currently pregnant again, and really sick with the flu. During the past few years I have also had major illnesses and have not had any genital symptoms. Could the fact that I am pregnant now and sick brought out a dormant infection? Even six years later? I have read a lot on the internet saying it could lay dormant for many years. I am so scared.
Thanks

More info:
When I stretch the skin the bump is hard to find. It doesn't look like anything on the internet.

My goodness, it sounds as though this winter was very hard on you.  I'm glad you're feeling better and hope your pregnancy is going well.  While I cannot tell you what this might be without examining you, my guess is that this is not a wart. The area of the vulva that you describe has many glands and cysts which can enlarge to form the sort of lesion you describe.  I suppose there is an outside possibility that this is a manifestation of an HPV infection that was dormant for some time (pregnancy is a time when dormant warts do appear) but from your description I doubt it.

My suggestions are as follow:
1. First and foremost stop picking and squeezing.  your manipulation will only make it harder to figure out what it might be and it may cause it to become secondarily infected.
2.  Ask your OB to take a look, explaining your concerns and, if you wish, my thoughts. My guess is that she/he will tell you that it is not a wart and is not something to worry about.

I hop[e this comment helps. Take care.  EWH

Hi again,

More Info:
I am 100% sure that my husband didn't cheat on me. Could this be herpes and not a wart? How accurate are herpes select blood test a year after exposure? I was neg. for both HSV1 and HSV 2. I was also on predisone on and off this winter, for inflammation of the brain and joint pain. I also had phenmonia so bad that my lung collasped. So I have had my fair shareof illnesses. I just cant believe this could be HPV after six years. At least thats what I am hoping.
