Dryness of Glans(glands) and discharge

Dr.

Just looking for another opinion on an issue that has been with me for over a year.  2 parts-one is a while back I had an irritation on the Glans (glands) and dryness which persisted for many months.  I tried hydrocortisone and a couple perscripton anti-fungals to no avail.  I may have overused them which made things worse-the hydro really seemed to dry out the skin and make it flaky.  It took almost a year to get back to normal-Desowen from the Derm seemed to help the most.  The skin is a little discolored(darker)in one area and lately it's a little dry again and flaky(very minimal).  Any idea what this is?  I've been told by a derm and uro its not an STD, probably just eczema of some sort-I do have dryer skin all over my body.  It's never been red or cracked or any sores/blisters/bumps.

2nd part, I've had a very slight clear sticky discharge for many months.  It's not everyday or throughout the day-just occasional.  No burning or pain with urinating or any other symptoms.  I've had urinalysis and urethral swab which came up with nothing.  I was treated with doxyclcline, cipro, flagyl and levaquin to try and rule out infection.  COuld it be someting anatomical or the prostate(I'm 27)?  Thanks for your input-just a couple chronic things that bug me and I cant seem to get rid of totally and no one can explain.

I can't really comment on the rash, except to say it doesn't sound like an STD.  In addition to eczema, psoriasis comes to mind.  Consider seeing a dermatologist.

The discharge probably is unrelated to the rash.  Urethral (penile) discharge usually means infection, but with negative tests and the treatments you have had, it is likely that nothing serious is going on.  Do you particularly notice it after an erection or at night or in the early morning, e.g. after dreaming?  Most dreams, including nonsexual ones, are accompanied by erections, and some clear, nocturnal discharges are simply pre-ejaculate fluid.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Dr.

The discharge doesn't occur in the morning, almost always in the middle of the day.  Seems to happens when I get up and walk around at lunch time but it can happen at random times during the day.  It's always when I'm up and around it seems.

I can't say much more, except see a health care provider when the problem is active--i.e., at a time the discharge is present.  If s/he finds it not to be clear, without any cloudiness, and if there is no inflammation by microscopic examination, and if STD tests (gonorrhea, chlamydia, trichomonas) indeed are negative, then I would consider it a physiologic discharge (i.e., normal mucus) and would just live with it.
