Easy Prevention tips of HPV? Shed your insite

by Single_guy, Aug 28, 2007 11:39PM

I dont normally visit massage parlors or day spas regularly, but I have been to these establishments maybe 3 or 4 times a year. Ive read threads that offered some tips as to being safe when visiting these places. If the good DR. reads this, please give me your insight on these tips.

In the sessions, I make sure my genitalia is covered appropriately, make sure no saliva or fluids are transferred from me to her or vice versa that is uncovered.
As soon as I leave the spa, I head straight to my car (which is parked off site and away from the establishment) and have a cup of warm water mixed with anti-bacterial soap and a dish scrub pad ready and waiting. I vigorously scrub my hands, arms and anything that could have been exposed, scrubbing for at least 10 minutes, making sure on the way to the car, I dont rub my eyes or nose or anything. After scrubbing, I take anti-bacterial wipes and wipes my hands and all exposed areas. I then head home and jump in a HOT shower, vigorously scrubbing my genital area with another dish scrub pad for at least 10-15 minutes with antibacterial soap as well. Plus as soon as I walk into my home, my clothes come straight off and into the wash.

Doctor, please fill me in on your expertise if this is a safe option to avoiding HPV contraction. I have heard that HPV is spread through skin to skin, so if these steps are taken as soon as contact is made, will it prevent HPV.

Thank you!

You should read the STD forum by Dr. Handsfield.  The best way to prevent HPV is by getting the vaccine.  You will have to pay for it yourself (abt $500) because insurance doesn't cover it, even for women.

Basically HPV is unavoidable, everyone gets it at some point in their sexual life. All that scrubbing, showering, etc. may actually increase your chances of contracting it because you are rubbing the virus into your skin.

Why bother going to a massage parlor if you are going to be so paranoid abt catching something?  And HPV isn't the only thing to worry about out there, especially from ppl who have sex for a living.  They are coming in contact with lots of ppl during the day/night who probably have other STD's.

I do very much agree with you. But if this is the choice someone makes, taking these steps will definitely lower the risk of getting HPV. Do you agree? In comparison to someone who does nothing after a visit and lets it sit rather than using an anti-bacterial solution after contact. Its at least a step to rid it from staying.

Why is HPV the focus of your question?  What kind of services are you receiving...vaginal sex, oral sex, manual?

And read mayflowers' answer.  You might actually be increasing your risk of transmission.  What's an anti-bacterial solution going to do against a virus?  If you're not having vaginal or anal sex then the risk is already so low that given that you're not even sure if you're helping in the first place, you really should just forget about the scrubbing.  If you're having vaginal or anal sex then the risk is so high that you shouldn't be doing this if you're so worried about HPV.
