Epididmytis

Hello, About 2 months ago I had unprotected sex with a female. After 4 days I had burning urination, went to urgent care, given shot and doxycyclene, but tested neg for chlamydia, gonorea. Finished the abx and symptoms went away. Then 2dys after finishing abx symptoms returned with a burning in right testicle and thigh. I went to my primary dr. and diagnosed with epididymitis, given oxyflocine for 10dys, felt no relief until about 5dys into abx, finished them and 2 dys later burning in testicle and thigh returned. Went back to my dr. and prescribed 2gms zithromax and zpack, I took all the abx and symptoms virtually disappeared, with small stinging sensation in my right testicle when touched being my only symptom. I had a vacation planned and asked the dr. to give me a backup of antibiotics, in case i had a relapse while on vacation. At this time it was about 4 weeks into my issues when I noticed my right tonsil became swollen. I felt the symptoms returning and started taking the backup azithromycin 250gm per day. Cut my vacation short and had dr. refer me to a specialist. Urologist prescribed  cipro twice a day for 6 weeks which I have been taking and symptoms with the testicle seemed to have subsided. I still have a swollen tonsil and feel the other one is starting to swell also, it doesn't hurt to swallow and is not painful. I also have a burning sensation in the middle of my body and a burning sensations that pop up all over in various places, 1 min it will feel like small burning sensation on my left arm and then one on my leg and so on. Have been taking 3 advil every 4 hours and that is the only thing that seems to help with the burning sensations. I am very worried and scared that burning feelings won't go away. I'm also worried about HIV and plan to be tested. I have read that swollen tonsils can be a symptom. I have not had a rash, respiratory issues, thrush, aching joints and have felt all areas for swollen lymph glands and dont feel anything.

Thanks for the response doctor. I guess I was wondering if the epididmytis could have been caused by a virus and the antibiotics only reduced the inflamation to allow the infection to slowly subside, and if it were a virus maybe that would explain the longevity of the swollen tonsils? I do plan to follow up with my Dr. next week but any of your knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome to the STD forum. Unfortunately, I really cannot help much.  There is little a distant, online expert can do when someone has see a health care provider -- especially more than one, including a urologist -- and has had multiple antibiotics.  All I can say at this point is that you have no STD.  Most likely you never had one, but if you did, the antibiotics would have cleared it up.  In any case, your symptoms really don't sound like those of an STD anyway.  And there is no reason to be suspicious of HIV in this situation.

Continue to follow up with your own physicians.  Sorry I can't help more.  Good luck--
