Frequently Urinating?

Hi,

I had an encounter with a girl last year in October. I had fingered girl then had protective sex. Whilst taking off the condom, I stupidly touched the top of my penis.  1 week later I started urinating frequently. 12 days after the incident I went to the GUM clinic. All tests came back negative. The frequent urinating then seemed to stop. I had tests for Chlamydia, Ghonorea done again 10 weeks later, and they came back negative. 12 weeks after the incident i had the neccesary blood tests done and they also came back negative.

So since Januray I have been feeling fine. Only last month (almost a year after incident) I started urinating frequently agian. I get no disharge, and i dont get any pain when I urinate.  Also sometime its not too bad, but other times it can feel like i'm going to wet myself.

The doctor has given me blood tests to check for anything causing this, but nothing was found. Also urine tests were taken and cultured and nothing was found.  The doctor said with all previous tests, and these urine tests showing no infection I dont have an STD, or an infection.

I am worried, In my panic (and before I thought it was an STD again), i took 2 tablets of Metronidazole on the day before the urine tests were cultured (one in day, one at night). Would this have put out the urine tests, meaining i did have an infection of some sort (NSU?), or would the white blood cell count still have been accurate?

I have a partner, after my initial tests last year, i thought i was ok, as the GUM clinic had said i was clear and other tests suggested the same. Now im afraid if I've passed anything on to her. Do you think i have just cause to be worried. I'm pretty sure I haven't got Chlam. or Gonor, but could this be an NSU? If so could my partner be at risk?

I'm currently being tested for mycoplasma and ureaplasma by a private doctor.  If these come out negative do, would you think I'm in the clear?

The urine test for WBC is just as good as a swab test in diagnosing asymptomatic NGU (same as NSU).

You may not keep returning with every additional anxiety-driven question that comes to mind.  You're just going to have to accept the good news that you have no STD, which you have heard from both the GUM clinic and on this forum.

Sorry to be a nuisance, I still very worried and confused, and don't know what to do next.

From reading your forum, Ive found that to work out if you have a non clam. NSU you need a swab done looking for WBC. I've never had this check. The GUM clinic carried out a urine tests to check for WBC and the doctor said that came back fine.  That was only 12 days after the incident. Is this enought time to find it?

Have I had a correct test to make sure I havent got anything, would you recommend I get checked for anything else to ensure I am ok?

Just to recap Ive been testes for Chlam. + Gonor. 3 times they came back negative.

Ive had a urine test at the GUM clinic that looks for WBC, and that came back fine.
I am worried bout NSU and I dont want to give anything to my partner?

I am very confused and worried, sorry to keep bothering you, I just dont know what to do?

You were supposed to "relax and put this STD business behind me" several days ago, when I replied "from an STD standpoint, you surely are in the clear." That has not changed.  Your GUM clinic providers know just as much as I do about these things and they are the ones to ask these and other questions.

Hello, sorry to keep bothering you. But I will try to keep this my last question.

I went back to the GUM clinic, and they didn't want to do anymore tests, as I havent been at risk since the last incident.

He showed me the rsults for the tests I had before. The tests taken reagrdig urine tests and swabs were Chlamydia and Gonorea. These of course came back negative.

A urine culture was taken and came back with no infection. WBC of 4 (Dr said it was normal to be anything under 40). All these tests were taken 12 days after the potential risk.

Are these tests I've taken enough to say I havent got an STD. I know I havent got Chlam + Gon, but would these tests have excluded everything else? Am I right to think the urine culture would have bought back any otehr STDs I may have caught? And are the 12 days long enough to wait before all thses tests?

I have had several tests (ive repeated Chlam,Gon several times.) I just want to know that i can relax and put this STD business behind me. Thanks for your help.

Since it isn't an STD, your partner is not at risk for anything.  I can't think of anything that would cause varying urinary frequency with position -- but your own statement about anxiety may be a clue.  Whenver a person suspects his or her own symptoms have a psychological origin, usually s/he is correct.  You might discuss this possibility with your doctor.

Thank you for your quick and helpful reply, that has put me at ease. The reason I thought I may have caught something is that with the same finger i feel i may have touched the the hole on my penis (also the same fingers that touched the outside of the condom). My fingers were definitly dry, but not washed after the incident. Could i have caught an infection this way?

Do you think that my partner will be at any risk from whatever is causing this symptom?

Also i seem to need to urinate regularily when sitting up (at my desk, or driving), and i dont really feel it when walking or lying down?

Sorry for all these questions, but I'm suffering from tremendous anxiety (a probable cause maybe).

Also, fingering risks no STD and condoms are 100% protective against any and all STDs that could possibly cuase any symptoms related to the urinary tract.  There never was any serious STD concern from your encounter a year ago.

Welcome to the STD forum.

There is nothing in your story that is suspicious for any STD.  No STD causes frequent urination as the primary or only symptom.  Further, had you caught gonorrhea or chlamydia at your encounter a year ago, the GUM clinic tests would have detected it.

There are many potential causes of frequent urination aside from STD, ranging from nothing abnormal at all (e.g., related to fluid intake) to diabetes, kidney disease, certain endocrine (hormonal) problems, and non-STD infections.

Mycoplasma and ureaplasma are normal bacteria in the urinary tract.  Although they can be shared between sex partners and some strains of Ureaplasma may cause nongonococcal urethritis (I stress "may"; the association is unproved), there really is no point in testing for them.  Most experts consider it a waste of money and time to test for them, and we never do so in my STD clinic.

In summary, from an STD standpoint, you surely are in the clear.  Continue to work with your doctor -- or for absolute assurance on such symptoms, with you GUM clinic -- about the cause of your symptoms.
