Genital Herpes

Hello, I'm a 20 year old woman. I have been with my boyfried for 3 years and 7 months. I have been a bit worried lately because a friend told me that you can get genital herpes from cold sores. My boyfriend rarely gets cold sores. In all these years that I have been with him it has been the second time he has gotten one on his lip. He recently got a cold sore and we engaged in sexual intercourse but he did not give me oral sex at any moment. Although, i was worried because since i was dry he used his own saliva to wet his part (penis) and introduce it into my part (vagina). Does that mean that I may have the possibility of now having genital herpes? Should I worry and get checked? Please help.. Thank You for your time.

Herpes isn't passed by saliva unless the saliva has come into contact with a sore.

Also, its not passed in blood, so blood has nothing to do with it.

I agree that this is a very slight chance, and you should ask your doctor for a type specific IgG blood test to find out if you already have hsv1.  Over 60% of people do, and you don't have to have a cold sore to have it.

Yes, this question is best for the herpes forum, but I wanted to clarify things.

There may be a slight risk however it isnt a major one. The fact that saliva was used from the infected person may well mean that it was passed. However, Herpes can be passed even if there is no sore/scab in very rare cases. Herpes cannot be passed through saliva (chances are 1-2%) unless the saliva has blood in it. So your quite safe on that front.

However if Oral was performed (in this case it wasnt) then there would be a high risk.

Hope this helps!!
