Gonorrhea Question

by GettingEducated, May 17, 2009 06:54PM
My girlfriend and I started in a relationship about 10-11 months ago and right away I heard that someone I had been with about 3 or 4 years ago had gonorrhea (I was never contacted by a health official about it) it was just something I had heard, so I got tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea and it came up negative(urine test), also I have never had any symptoms that I know of.  This got me worried for about six months or so and I got other std testing done that also showed up negative. I recently started worrying because i read that urine tests are about 90% accurate so 1 in 10 people might have a false negative, I then went to the closest clinic and asked a doctor some questions about it and he told me that for people who dont have symptoms for either clamydia (chlamydia) or gonorrhea a urine test is sufficient and that the people who would have a false negative on a urine test are people who would most likely be showing symptoms.  Also my girlfriend was tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea about six months after we have been together when she was tested for Bacterial Vaginosis and it was the swab test and it was negative for chlamydia and gonorrhea, also we barely ever use protection and we are sexually active. So ultimately my questions are 1. Could I have chlamydia and gonorrhea for that long and not know it. 2. What are the chances of my urine test being a false negative 3. If I did infact have either of the infections wouldnt I pass it on to her after six months of being together and having unprotected sex.  4. How often do men have gonorrhea symtoms 5. What are the chances of me having gonorrhea, having a negative urine test, not passing it onto my girlfriend after six months, and her having a negative swab test. 6. Also if she wasnt showing symptoms for chlamydia or gonorrhea would the swab still pick up the infection.  I have to apologize about the length of this I have never asked a question online before but a professional opinion would be great.  Thanks!!!  Also when I had a blood test they checked for chlamydia but not gonorrhea because they said I would most likely show symptoms for gonorrhea

Based on what you posted, You did your test not once, not twice but three times.. I would say your fine and you need to stop thinking about this so much...

I tested for chlamydia three times between me and my girlfriend the concern is gonorrhea and not trying to be rude but are you a professional?, I posted this question to get some answers and an opinion from a professional I am not sure if I asked the question in the right place or not, if not where would I ask such a question?
