Gonorrhea from oral sex?

In a recent trip to Taiwan I had unprotected oral sex with a sex worker (16 days ago), not the best judgement call I know, the following day I got concerned about possible stds.

So after looking on the web I decided to take some antibiotics to treat potential bacterial STDs so I took on day 3 after axposure a single dose of 2 gr of Azithromycin and two days later a single dose of 400mg of Cefix.

After that I had no major symptoms, no ulcers or chancroid, but a a minor burning sensation during urination.

After my return home (12 days after first exposure) I had sex with my girlfriend and felt a burning sensation on the tip of my penis during ejaculation. Then yesterday (15 days after exposure) had sex againg and this time the burning sensation much more higher.

I also caught a cold on day 11, not sure if this is relevant but based on some discussions on Adenovirus it could be related.

If I had gonorrhea do you think that the medications taken should have kill it, if so what could be the cause?

Thanks for the help.

Thank you for the reply, I paid a visit to an urologist and he was in agreement that it seemed unlikely that a bacterial std was present.

He could not find any external sore or blister so he told me that my symptoms were probably in my mind (fear from passing an std to my girfriend) and that it seemed unlikely that I had an std, he asked for a sperm culture test which should be back in a couple of days. He was right to some extent since I no longer have pain during ejaculation.

My concern is that a day after my visit to the doctor I kept feeling a slight burning sensation in the urethra at the tip of my penis. I could see that it was irritated and there was a small bump inside, smaller than a pin head. Now I'm concerned about Herpes in the urethra, would you think of other possibility? I still don't have any external blisters.

Guess I'll have to go back to the urologist for another check up.

Thanks again for your help

Welcome to our Forum.  I'll try to help.  For starters, while gonorrhea certainly can be transmitted through receipt of oral sex, it is not common.  Had you acquired gonorrhea however, both the cefixime and the azithromycin treatments that you took would be likely to cure the infection.  I would urge you not to worry about gonorrhea.

As for your symptoms, modest discomfort immediately following ejaculation is not a symptom of gonorrhea. when people get gonorrhea, the discomfort is present most of the time or upon urination and is typically accompanied by an obvious urethral discharge.  I would not worry about gonorrhea or, for that matter, any other bacterial STD related to your exposure.  If you feel the need, rather than self medicating, you should see someone who can evaluate you using tests which include a gram stain of a specimen taken from your urethra.  Personally however, I doubt that there is anything to worry about.
