The back story to my current situation can be found here: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Chlamydia/STD-in-China/show/1058889 where I posted when I thought I had Chlamydia. Actually, there is a good chance that I was infected with both Chlamydia and Gonorrhea, but one of my treatments eliminated the Chlamydia.
I have taken 3 separate rounds of antibiotics. The following is a rough time line of this unfortunate ordeal:
Day 15 after unprotected sex, pain increases in testicles, no pain in urethra. See an STD specialist who says there are 2 types of Gonorrhea, one of which cannot be cured like type 1 and causes incredible pain and swelling in the testicles. The doctor USED A BLOOD TEST TO CONFIRM I HAD "TYPE 2" Gonorrhea (which I thought could only be confirmed in other ways such as NAAT or swab culture). Begin treatment plan of Gatifloxacin 200mg twice daily and Levofloxacin 100 mg twice daily. The doctor also prescribed azithromycin, but I had already taken a strong dose and decided against it when I found drug interactions between it and the other two.
Day 17 (today) after unprotected sex, day 3 of 3rd treatment, pain increased again in my testicles.
My question is what to do. I am very concerned that I will become sterile (if I haven't already). I have one more day of treatment, but the medications don't seem to be working. My other option is to go back to the STI specialization clinic and get a round of drip IV treatments, which supposedly cure the infection quite rapidly.
Should I just go to Hong Kong and get this figured out, wait a couple days to see if this treatment works, or go and get the IV drip treatment?
