Grace Please answer! Herpes infection after 1 exposure

by stupid28, Aug 03, 2007 10:32AM
Grace I took another Oraquick on 08/02/07 and this one came back positive (really really faint dot).  I went to the doctor that did the first oraquick and he got mad at me because he had already told me that it was negative and why had i taken another one.  He checked me from down there and told me that he did not see any herpes.  Now these test are being done after 12 weeks from exposure (2 positive 1 negative).  I spoke with the guy that I slep with and he informed me that he had not ever seen any breakouts but he also has never gotten a herpes test.  What is my change of getting it after 1 time unprotected sex with someone that was not having an outbreak but may have herpes?  What should i do?  Can eat, cant sleep, cant do anything)

First of all - chill out.  You are allowing this to consume you way too much.  I encourage you to visit your doctor and just address the anxiety issues at this point. If need be - some medication if for nothing else but to sleep is a good idea.  You can not continue to let this be your focus day in and day out.

At this point  - wait another month and get a herpes WB and then call it a day.  Whatever the WB shows go with that result.  Meanwhile ask the fellow you were with to get himself a herpes blood test for some peace of mind.

I just called the manufaturers of Biokit to ask them about the faint dot. and they mentioned that I faint dot should of been read as a negative.  That they were going to call the doctor to inform him that a faint dot should be represented as a negative.

I did tell this guy yesterday, he was all panicked because he has never seen anything unusual about himself (I just hope he does not have anything).  I also had my husban tested and he tested negative so now I am really worried that I might have cought it this one time.  I am going to have a western blot done for peace of mind

one again what is my change of getting it after 1 time unprotected sex with someone that was not having an outbreak but may have herpes?

thanks

a one time encounter is low risk.

Herpes is EASILY spreadable though...
I got it from ONE time.

Herpes is not easily spreadable. It really is just as much about bad luck as anything.  You can get it from a one time encounter but the risk of that happening are pretty darn low.
