May 27, 2006 I received unsafe oral sex for the first and lony time. Im a 20 year old male. I do not recall seein any open sores around her mouth.

1 year and 3 months  later I have had no symptoms that describe herpes. I do not have to take a blood test right?

hehehe sorry... but I COMPLETELY understand...  College was the hardest.  Had a few scares and I was one of the "good" guys.  Just choose wisely. Good to know someone before you go messing with them.  Good luck to you, CRI.

Thanks

I have never had a cold sore. So I don't know if I have HSV1 orally. I believe I have it due to over half the population having it.

I may test, as it is only HSV1 and if I am negative I will never have sex in my life oral or otherwise.

Based upon what I have been told, if you already have hsv-1 above the waist, your body already has the virus in your body and you cannot catch it AGAIN below the waist.  If you DO NOT have it, you can get HSV-1 below the waist, but it is still oral herpes..  Based on what I understand, if you already have oral herpes, you can't get it from oral sex.  You would not be as lucky with genital herpes, for example from catching it from having vaginal sex.

I'm not a doctor nor have any formal medical instruction, therefore, it's just my opinion.  I got all of my info from this board and the herpes hotline.  If you're concerned, I strongly encourage you to call it.

Yes. My university has the test. I just don't want to take it if I don't have to to save me money. That's why I would like to know if I don't have to worry about genital HSV1.

I will take the test though if I have any symptoms or my risk was high.

So am I in the clear/

Ive been on this site many times and it really didn't give me the comfort that you have.

I guess I can just forget about the whole thing right?

I may or may not get a herpes test at my university as the darn theings are 30 dollars. Plus they wont tell me where the herpes is.

I guess no symptoms ater a  and 1/2 means no herpes right?

The odds on this one are incredibly in your favor.  Even if the chances were 1 in 1,000,000,000, people like you and I are sure that we're the "1". Read this board, check out the herpes board
http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_learn.cfm

I called the herpes hotline and gained comfort, got tested and was confirmed.

The mind is incredibly strong when it comes to things like this for people like us.

Do what you gotta do to chill!

Well Im pretty sure I have HSV1 orally. Most people have it or will get it in the mouth. So im not worried bout that at all.

Im worried about the genital herpes HSV1. You say I don't have to worry about that correct?

No matter what we tell you, you may need to be tested.  It was the only way that I found peace.  But remember, Oral Herpes is already in 50% of the population.  You may have it, but nearly positively not from your one episode that concerns you most.  Grandmas with cold sores?  That kiss in the alley when you were in 7th grade?  Or what about all of the endless smothering of hugs and kisses when you were a baby that you got?  GET TESTED and ease your mind.  Honestly, I was amazed I didn't have it.  So was the testing site!  It's sofreaking common.  No outbreaks is a good thing though.  As I said above though... once I got tested and came back clear... my "symptoms" disappeared.  The mind is overpowering beyond your imagination.  Relax... :-)

I asked the same question a few weeks back - the MedHelp doc said there is little if any chance.  I called the herpes hotline (do a google search for it, and be prepared to be on hold for a LONG time - small underfunded not-for-profit, but GREAT people!) and found that there are only a hand full of days that the "giver" is contageous without an obvious cold sore.  I was told that if no cold sore was present, one should be fine.  I am told that it is one of the safest forms of sexual activity... in my mind, safer does not mean safe...

I was told that the only kind of herpes you could get from receiving oral is oral herpes (HSV-1?) Which over 50% of the populations catches as a child from non-sexual contact aka kiss from someone who has it.  Many people don't show symptoms once they catch it.

Interesting, I was positive I was one of the few thatcould catch it that way, as I felt I had symptoms. I got test results yesterday and it did come out negative.  Symptoms suddenly are almost gone...

I hope this is helpful.
