HIV Exposure - Oral Sex female

by gab5, Mar 09, 2005 12:00AM
i stupidly visited an asian massage parlour on Feb 8.  I had protected vaginal sex and performed unprotected oral sex.  The next day I went to see my doctor, who prescribed 4 days of Cipro, 7 days of doxyclylene.  At 7 days I went back to the doctors and had a complete blood test, HIV included.  All came back fine, meaning negative.  At 22 days I submitted an Home Access HIV test and received a negative response.  I am racked with guilt and worry about infecting my wife.  I am reading all kind of stuff on the web that says I have to wait 3 to 6 months.  My wife would definitely know if I did not have sex for 3 months.  Please let me know.  I am going crazy.

What is it about "Asian" massage parlors?  The term has been used by other questioners on the forum.  You probably weren't thinking in racist terms, but I would prefer that STD forum users take care to avoid racist and sexist characterizations.

You have essentially zero risk of HIV from the exposure you describe.  See several other recent discussions about time to HIV test conversion.  The modern tests--i.e., the "third generation" ELISA HIV antibody tests--almost always are positive within a month.  However, I don't know what technology Home Access currently is using, but even with the older tests, most persons would be positive at 22 days.

You didn't need those antibiotics.  In any case, you can safely resume sex with your wife.  I repeat, you definitely did not get HIV from that exposure.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Thank you for the response and I appologize for the reference in to the type of massage parlour.  I agree that it was not appropriate or germane to the discussion at hand.

Does this mean I should not bother testing again?

I wouldn't get retested.  But the fact is that most people find a negative test more reassuring than anything I can say.  So if you would sleep better, sure--get retested at 3 months.  But don't feel you need to abstain until then.

gab,

you do not need to test, you are fine, I was in the exact situation  , I cheated on my wife and had protected sex, and unprotected cunnilingus.  I only tested for Chlamydia, syphilis, gonorhea. All negative.  You are fine.  have sex with your lady.

ITS THE GUILT EATING AT YOU, NOT HIV.  I know!!!!!!!!!  email me if you want to chat or talk over the phone.  here is my email..
