HIV TESTS

Hi Doc,

i had unprotected vaginal sex with a girl of unkown status and afterwards, i fell into extreme guilt and anxiety. I went and got tested for HIV twice, once at the 6 week mark at my doctors lab and another at the 10 week mark at a walk-in clinic via the oraquick rapid (the one when they take a small sample of blood)both were negative.

Anyways, how relaible can i take these results, i feel like i still have all the symptoms and im going crazy. I have to see a psychologist on a weekly basis due to this and it has drove me nuts. Any insight would be greatly appreciated

thank you for your time!!

The risk of catching HIV from a single episode of unprotected vaginal sex is very low even if your partner was infected, which she probably wasn't.  In any case, as others responded before me (below), your test results prove you do not have an HIV infection.  Period.

Good luck--- HHH, MD

You can be 100% sure you do not have HIV.  But I would recommend keeping the appointment with the psychologist.  He/she may be able to help you get past your fears which are not founded in truth of your HIV status.
