HPV 16

by sun2love, Jun 11, 2009 08:11PM
Hi.  I recently had throat surgery and they removed a wart and biopsied it.  It came back cancerous and I was tested positive for HPV 16. (I do have a pap smear test scheduled now too.)  My question is that I have been with my husband only for the last 15 years.  Can this virus be dormant this long or do I need to have a talk with my husband?  Thank you.

I would think if you have had pap smears within the last 15 years, HPV would have been detected before the wart on your throat.  They have been automatically testing for HPV, Chlamydia, and gonorrhea during annual pap exams for quite some time now.  And usually, HPV clears itself up within a few years of contracting it.  But there are exceptions to everything so..  Why don't you post your question in the HPV forum on this site?  I'm sure they could give you a much better answer.
