2) The virus can be transmitted orally, but rarely causes warts or other symptoms in or around the mouth. Don't worry about it.
3) The types of HPV that cause warts (almost entirely HPV-6 and 11) can cause mild dysplasia, but never the kinds that progresses to cancer.

Pap smears and cervical cancer can appear as soon as 3-4 weeks after catching HPV, or up to 20 or more years later.

Your wife needs to follow her doctor's recommendations about treatment; if she does, she has no chance of getting cancer as a result of her HPV. Otherwise, mellow out. I was raped almost 10 years ago. I had a pap done about 9 months after. It came back abnormal and I had the leep done. 3 months after to date my paps have come back normal. I was never told anything about hpv. I am worried sick that my husband of 7 years and I are going to break out in warts any day. Should I be worried about this. I cant eat or sleep. Please help me.
