HSV 2 risk from recieving brief oral sex

by thornsofheaven, Apr 24, 2005 12:00AM
On January 25 2005 I recieved oral sex without a condom for 30 secs.,from a sex worker.I tested negative for syph, chlamida, and gonorreah.I tested negative for herpes using herpes select after 9 weeks and 3 days, and I have another herpes select test result coming, along with a hepatitis and hiv test, this wk. after 12 wks. I tested on the first day of the 12th wk.

I also have chronic prostitis/urethritis, which was affected. After 3 scripts of Cipro, for six wks (I kept missing doses and I needed to take it 3x to get it right) the infection/burning with no uriniation/discomfort appeared to go away. One wk later I noticed thick clear discharge from my penis. I have pain in my groin, but this might be from checking myself all for the last 3 mths, and I do have pain in my buttocks and thighs but I rock in a chair alot.

My urologist gave me Cefaclor for one wk, then 2 wks of doxicycline. The discharge is still there, after I eat cheese and soda especially. I did have two hard sebaceous cysts on my shaft that I popped, which left open holes w/o discharge.

Is 12 weeks enough to test for HPV 2 using herpes select? There is a lot of conflicting info on the net as to when the antibodies will show. I am a healthy male with no immune deficiencies.

Can I relax knowing the contact was minimal, and that Herpes antibodies would have shown up in the 9 week mark? and that HSV 2 is rare in the mouth?

Might I have a yeast infection from the antibotic (antibiotic) t/x. I went on Zithromax 9 times in 2004 along with Cipro 3 times so I think my body is responding to all the drugs.

Oral infection with HSV-2 is extremely rare, and in 30+ years in the STD business I have never seen (or heard of) a case of genital HSV-2 infection acquired by oral sex.  The HerpeSelect test is just about always positive within 9 weeks, but a second negative result at 3 months will confirm for sure you don't have HSV-2.

I'm not going to get into the diagnosis of your urethral discharge, prostate problem, etc, except to say herpes isn't the cause or otherwise related.  But you might want to see other recent threads on this forum about prostatitis and "male pelvic pain syndrome".  But relax about herpes.

Good luck-- HHH, MD
