Hep B

Hi

I hope you can help as I seem to be going a little crazy.

There seems to be so much mixed information on the internet about the risks with Hep and receiving oral sex. Some sexually transmitted risk tables do not identify receiving oral sex as a risk whilst others put it down as high risk activity for oral sex.

One of the problems seems to be around wether Hep B can be transmitted by saliva. Again some sites put it down as a route of transmission and others do not.

Would a negative test result at 8 weeks be reliable.

In most text books, the possibility of hepatitis B transmission through oral sex or through bites is not even mentioned.  If it happens, it is very, very rare.  In North America hepatitis B is now a rare infection, it is unlikely to be transmitted by saliva.  I would not worry and would anticipate that a test a 8 weeks would provide even further confidence that this rare event had not happened to you.

Hope this helps.  EWH
