Herpes?? Anyone??

How common is it for a first outbreak to be a single red bump in the pubic area that is very itchy? I know this sounds like a bug bite, so i guess my question is: can an initial herpes outbreak be confused with a bug bite? The area is red and pretty irritated from itching. It is not extremely painful but i know not everyone with herpes suffers from extreme pain. It arose a little over a week after having protected sex with someone of unknown status. Its not an ingrown hair and is unlike anything Ive ever had down there. I realize that everyone is different and herpes can take many forms but does anyone have any insight?

Herpes usually shows up as a cluster of small blister-like bumps. To your question, hes, a herpes outbreak can be confused with a bug bite. Where is the bump exactly? If it's on a location that was covered by teh condom, then it's most likely not herpes.

Its in my pubic region just above the pubic hair line and was, obviously, not covered by the condom. I just dont know how unusual something like this would be if it were an initial outbreak of herpes. Thanx for your reply and any additional info would be great.
