Herpes Question

Hi Doc,

Here goes my story. About 2 weeks ago I had protected intercourse 2-3 times with a woman I found to have HSV2. Recently about a week ago, I've noticed a symmetrical red rash on the folds of my groin. It never itched and doesnt burn anymore which it used to when I first noticed it. I freaked out and went to a doctor who said it doesnt look like herpes, but friction irritation. Still not good enough, I went to another doctor who said it doesnt look like herpes but did a viral swab (there are lesions which look like cracks which bleed). It was negative.

I've been applying Lamisil and gold bond powder for a week now. One side looks to be getting better and the other side still looks about the same. Today i noticed another crack/fissure there when i woke up which was bleeding a little. There are no lesions on anything of concern on my penis. Just was looking for another opinion. Does this resemble herpes to you?? Since its not on my penis should I be concerned? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

AD

Information from an online provider rarely is more reliable than that from providers who actually have examined someone.  Since 2 doctors say it isn't herpes, it isn't herpes.  And it doesn't sound like it to me either; herpes doesn't cause the sort of inflammation you describe in the folds of the groin.  Sounds like typical tinea cruris (jock itch). Follow up with one or the other of your doctors if it doesn't clear up on Lamisil.

I had protected sex with a woman who is virtually a stranger almost three weeks ago. A couple of days ago I noticed three red bumps on my right thigh.  The bumps all surround hair follicles and are only slightly raised.  They don't seem to be growing in size, and dont cause any pain. Yet they are all fairly close together. I know this may be paranoid, could this be herpes?  The impression I get is that herpes can present itself in a variety of ways, not just classical sores.  Thanks.
