Herpes Syptoms(symptoms)? Please help!

by std_scare, May 07, 2007 12:00AM
had unprotected oral sex on 4/29/2007. The next night I had some small blisters above my lips.
I went to the doctor on Monday. According to the Doctor, I might have herpes. So he gave 4 1GM Valtrex and blood test for HSV1 and HSV2.
The test results came back on 5/4/2007 and are negative for both HSV1 and HSV2. However, I think the results might be false negative because I have the blood test too soon. When should I take another test for HSV1 and HSV2?
Also, after the 4 pills Valtrex, the tingle feeling come back around my lips. Is that going to be my second outbreak or it's still my first one?
Do I need to take more Valtrex?

Please let me know. I am so scared.

You have to wait 3 months to repeat the blood test. It's a shame the doc just didn't do a pcr swab of your lips and be done with it.

Go pick yourself up some aveeno cold sore ointment with propolis in it ( under $10 and most drugstores/walmarts carry it ).  Apply it every couple of hours during the day. If nothing else you'll have soft, kissable lips for the next couple of days :)

Thank your reply, grace!  You are doing a wonderful job here.
People like me need your support!

Anyway I hate to wait for another 3 months to have another test, but it looks like there's nothing I can do at this time.

Do you think I should keep taking Valtrex every day?

no - it won't give you a lot of bang for your buck ( it's basically done what it's going to do already ) and it's $$$ for most folks. Also it could potentially prolong how long until you'd get an accurate blood test result so why bother if you only have tingles and not obvious cold sores ( I hope that makes sense ).
