Herpes Testing

by WakingSun, Jun 18, 2007 12:00AM
I contracted herpes as a teen to my vagina.  I don't know if it was type 1 or 2.  I rarely (maybe once every 5-10 years) get a recurrent sore on my vagina, but get a sore in my mouth or around my nostrils.  Should I just reason that I have HSV1, or is there a blood test I can get at my doctors office that will be 100% accurate?  Thanks in advance.  Thanks in advance.

When you were first diagnosed as having genital herpes - had you had sex yet or just received oral sex?

The lesions around your nose sound suspicious for hsv1.

You can get a type specific herpes igg blood test to see what your hsv1 and hsv2 status is. Your other option is to get your next genital ob cultured for herpes and your next oral ob cultured too. You very well might have hsv1 orally and hsv2 genitally or just have hsv1 in both areas.  The blood test will tell what you have - just not where you have it.

Hope that makes sense?
