Herpes and HIV risk

Last night (over 24 hours ago) I had protected (condom) oral and vaginal sex with a sex worker.  Several hours after the encounter, I developed three raised bumps at the base of the shaft of my penis, which were diagnosed as herpes 2 by my GP this morning.  (It's possible that the act of sex actually brought out the blisters and that I had received them from another partner in the past).  I'm now on Valtrex.  Since herpes 2 increases the risk of HIV transmission, are the odds high that if the sex worker was HIV positive that I would be now too?  I am uncertain as to her HIV situation.

I definitely agree - get a type specific herpes igg blood test now and then if it's negative repeat it at the 3 month mark.  You used a condom so your chances of contracting hiv are too small to warrant testing but if you know you won't sleep easy again until you have tested for hiv - you can do so at the 3 month mark.

Yes, visual inspection, I will request a blood test.

You should have requested a HSV1 &2 Igg blood test when you visited your GP. If your results would come up positive for HSV2 antibodies , it would meant you have been infected before the encounter you described.
I think you should request your GP  to do the blood test anyways as soon as possible, then wait for another test after around 12 weeks.
How did your GP came to conclusion that you have herpes, just visual examination!  I hope he/she did some test.

Thank you. The three herpes blisters were not quite covered by the condom as they are at the base of my penis. Is  there a risk of HIV?

If you really have herpes 2, you didn't get it from your encounter last night. You had to have gotten it before. Herpes wouldn't show up that quickly if you had just been infected last night. And no, you don't have to worry about HIV. You had protected sex, and condoms are 100% protection against HIV, which cannot possibly penetrate latex.
