Herpes or Jock itch or what?

by Cavell, Feb 01, 2006 12:00AM
I am a female who has been diagnosed with HPV.  Since this time I have become scared about other STD's.

As long as I can remember I have always had a persistent itch around my vaginal, around the folds near my legs.  It looks like a red circle all the way around my pubic hair.  Since I have been treated with HPV, with freezing and I have started using Aldara recently because I noticed a return of the warts I have been even itchier.

I am not sure if my persistent scratching is causing damage to the skin around my vaginal or if it could be something else.

I have searched the internet and looked up jock itch and think the pictures look similar.

The reason I think this may NOT be Herpes is because the itching has been constant.  Never going away.

Is it possible that it’s herpes or some type of fungal infection, or reaction to treatment?

I guess the best way to describe is it looks like a diaper rash.   No pussing lesions, but I have caused some damage to my skin.  I also noticed its itchy more so in the bath and at night.

I am not sure if I you would need this information, but I haven't had sex since I was told I had HPV, and always protected sex.  Which I know doesn't always protect you.

Your symptoms suggest such things as fungal infection like tinea (jock itch), yeast, a skin infection called erythrasma, or any of several other things.  It isn't herpes and it's not directly due to HPV.

You need to stop trying self-diagnosis or looking for answers online and get a professional diagnosis.  Presumably by now you have seen a health care provider about it.  If not, or if s/he hasn't made a diagnosis, see somone else.  A referral to a dermatologist would be a good idea.
