Herpes or Yeast Infection

by WORKER, Sep 21, 2005 12:00AM
I recently woke up a morning after being with a girl I have been dating for a few years and noticed I had a white rash on the bottom side of my penis.  She was on her period so we did not have intercourse, but did rub up against her...  The white flakyness sort of whiped away when in the shower, but noticed that I started getting pimples and started to itch on the groin/penis region.  I also shaved the day before and thought it could have been razor burn. Thought it was razor burn, but it doesn't appear that everyone is in a hair follicle pimple - might be though(some definitely are).  It know slightly burns, but that could be because I am itching alot.  I am sort of freaked out that it could be herpies (herpes)?

Basically symptoms where:
- White rash for a day
- pimples and itching day for a couple days after
- burning a little bit day after a couple of days of itching, but pimples seem to be going away a little...

Is this a sign of a yeast infection or herpies (herpes).  I am going to try to get tested tomorrow, but would like to know your opinion.

Is it possible a yeast infection would last that long?  I have been running around and sweating and haven't treated it beside showering?

No STD can cause a "white rash" or any other of the symptoms you describe (or any symptoms at all) that start within hours of catching the infection.  Neither can yeast.

Your razor burn idea sounds more likely than anything else, and your symptoms don't sound at all like a yeast infection or herpes.  The location suggests a possible non-yeast fungal infection, such as tinea cruris (jock itch); or you could have a bacterial skin infection called erythrasma.  None of these is sexually transmitted and all would be unrelated to the sexual exposure you describe.

Sorry I can't help further.  You're doing the right thing by planning to see a healthc are provider.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

Also, a few our on the leg, one on the penis, majority spread out at the base of the penis in the pubic here and one or two on the sac of my scrotum.  I poped a few and the pop like typical zits, and have what looks like a piece of flesh bubble thing and then bleed a little bit.  Any answers would be appreciated.

I have shaved recently and it started with a white flaky crust on the underside of my penis... Any answers?

If they look like typical zits, that's probably what they are.

The rash didn't develop until a couple days.  Most look like zits but some look more like blisters, but they are somewhat spread out.  My penis was a little sore the night after we were together as we did have very long foreplay (non sexual).  Which is why I thought my penis was sensitive.

The rash / scaleness went away day two after showering, but then the zits/blisters came and now its slightly sore and pretty itchy.

Still doesn't sound like herpes.  See a health care provider if not yet done.  Your local health department STD clinic would be a good place.

Can you tell me if you think I am right? I believe i Have folliculitis - but am not sure.

I have pimples (some look a little like blisters), but a decent amount of them have hair coming out.  But today I have been having diarrhea and started to get freaked out again.

It has been approximately 5 to 6 days and a number of the pimples are going away, but there are still some there - the itching is lot less, almost nonexistent.

Could the diarrhea be from folliculitis?  Is there any other thing that I should be worried about? I got tested but have to wait until tues to find out the results.  I am not freaking out because the diarrhea could be a sign of HIV - am I overreacting?

What about Staph as well - is this an opiton to have with folliculitis and is that something to worry about?
