Is there any way to numerically predict the chance of transmission from a one time protected act for herpes and other stds? I'm a numbers person
thaks for your additonal detail. it does not change my assessment or advice. As I said above"...we do not recommend testing with HerpeSelect to detect otherwise inapparent herpes infections. If you have not had an outbreak and have been having condom protected sex, I would not be worried about HSV at all." This is still the case. I would not be worried if I were you. EWH
Maybe I can be more detailed. In late June I sleept with my ex an we separated shortly there after. I meet my new boyfriend and before sleeping together I had us both tested at the end of July. We are in a committed monogamous relationship and stopped using condoms after we both got negative std tests. I had learned last week that hsv tests aren't conclusive until 3 months. I was making sure that my hsv igg taken 5 weeks after protected sex with my ex is conclusive for me .
You do not provide a lot of detail here and as a rule, we do not recommend testing with HerpeSelect to detect otherwise inapparent herpes infections. if you have not had an outbreak and have been having condom protected sex, I would not be worried about HSV at all. That both your and his HerpeSelect tests were negative provides further evidence that neither of you has herpes. i would not worry further about it.
As far as HIV is concerned, this is a rare disease. If your situation were riskier then I would urge you to re-test for HIV but under the circumstances, I would accept your negative test for HIV as proof that this is not a problem either and not worry further. EWH
