High Risk HPV and Oral

I was just diagnosed with high-risk HPV (non-warts strain) and wonder about the risk of giving HPV to a man via oral sex.  I am so worried about this.

Do I need to disclose to recent partners that I now have HPV?  Future partners?  I understand that you can still contract HPV even using condoms but how do you know where you have it if there are no symptoms like warts?

I am mortified over this and feel awful.

It turns out that I have an inactive form of the virus and a completely normal pap.  My doctor told me that I don't have to ever disclose which just doesn't seem right.  If the virus becomes active, then it is contagious as I understand it.  My doctor said, well everyone has it anyway.  Then I had to fight to get the Guardasil vaccination...

did you have an abnormal pap result or just a hpv test with a pap that came back as +?

proper use of condoms reduces hpv transmission by 90%. Proper use is - the condom goes on when the clothing goes off. Just waiting until penetration to have a male put on a condom increases both of your risks for contracting a std.

so what do you do now? well really any present and future partners are who you discuss this with. Totally up to you if you want to go back and tell previous partners but since there's no way to know when you contracted hpv, hard to do so. we also don't have commercially available tests for hpv for males either so none of your past partners can get tested for it either.

keep asking questions!

Hello

Your profile says you are male, so I am going to assume this.  (however, I somehow feel you are female --let us know).

If you give a man oral sex and you don't have ORAL HPV (I am going to assume you don't), then the risk is ZERO.

You do not need to disclose your news to your recent partners.  But I am sure it would be appreciated if you did tell them.  You don't need to disclose this to new partners, but it would be appreciated if you did tell them.    Put yourself if their shoes would you want to know?   I hope you answered yes, so you can be more cautious.

You can't really tell if you have HPV by sight.  A HPV test for women is usally doen using a swab.
