How can you find out if you have rectal gh. or chlamydia?

as embarassring as this may be,....how can someone find out?
Would I have to clean out "down there" before getting tested?

I was on Cipro 250 mg for 7 days....how effective would that be if I had been exposed to gh or chlam ?

THANK YOU SO MUCH.

Also, if gone undiagnosed for several weeks, could this pose a serious problem?

If you need to find out if you have gonorrhea or chlamydia in your rectum, you will have to go to a doctor, who will perform a rectal swab to check for the bacteria.  Cipro used to be effective against gonorrhea, however resistant strains have been developed and Cipro is no longer used to treat gonorrhea.  The most effective treatment is Ceftriaxone, which is injected into a muscle.  I do not believe Cipro has any effect against Chlamydia.

The doctor in this forum always claims that gonorrhea and chlamydia both disappear on their own within a couple of months.  I've never heard or read about gonorrhea/chlamydia causing any harm to a person who has had a rectal infection.  However, just because I haven't heard or read about it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.  I simply don't know.

Also, just as an FYI, you don't say if you're gay, but if you are, cipro resistant strains of gonorrhea are more prevalent in the gay community.

is this something that will go away on its own without treatment?

No you don't need a bowel cleanse before getting tested.

Antibiotics aren't effective against genital herpes.  It was a rather low dose for chlamydia too.

If you think you had a high risk encounter - go be seen and get tested.
