How does herpes react to medicines?

Howdy!

For those of you who have not seen me whining here earlier, you can familiarize yourselves to my story here: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/285944

To make it brief, it was unprotected oral sex.

Anyway, the latest update is that I recently went to one more dermatologist appointment, according to which I have no STDs (visual inspection only). Syphilis, hepatitis and hiv blood tests were all negative (@ +11 weeks of time).

Despite all this I still have symptoms every day, sometimes pain in urethra, sometimes stinging in scrotum or inner thighs. Not much visual ones, but stinging, slight burning and itching, plus a tender and red foreskin. Today I took a pill of Ibuprofen and after that my scrotum felt like in the song called great balls of fire. Boy where they red, itchy and it did hurt more than earlier.

My question is that does herpes react when taking e.g. antibiotics or Ibuprofen? Like mentioned in my description to dr H, I have taken two sets of antibiotics with no effect whatsoever, but this Ibuprofen really made a difference, and not a good one. Any ideas what's going on? I know have three specialists who all say I do not have herpes, dr. H agrees with them and a lady at the local public clinic, based on our phone conversation doubted that I could have it. Interesting. Since they do not do any blood tests at the clinics here, I may have to take one more blood test later and pay 100 bucks for it, once again. And trust me, I'm not obsessed with herpes, in my mind I have pretty much accepted my mistake - but the symptoms refuse to go away. Comments are welcome.

Thanks,
Rippy

Usually it's diagnosed with a visual exam. You can actually take a small scraping of the skin and examine the skin cells under the microscrope for yeast.  I just mentioned it because you said you had redness and then skin sloughing off which sounds more like fungus than anything.

None of the dermatologists I have seen has said that it looked like a fungal infection. Actually most of the time everything looks pretty normal even to myself, but I feel pain and irritation. Anyhow, they assumed that it might be one possible reason, since no signs of STDs has been found either. I have tried three different creams intendent for irritated skin and fungal infections, but with no effect.

I am not familiar with fungal infection tests, but I think I have to go to another appointment again - better ask about 'em then.

The skin peeling off around your shaft and scrotum  isn't likely to be due to herpes.  Have you been tested for fungal infections?

Thanks for your comment.

I have had two herpes blood tests after the evening of my stupid mistake, which both were negative. So it is 100% sure I did not have either virus before this. It is about +12 weeks now, so I will probably wait a bit and have another test done and see whether it's changed to positive. Oral contact was so brief that I can be pretty sure that if it turns out that I do have herpes after all, it must be genitally.

Today I have felt a lot better that last week, probably because I have avoided using soap. Skin around penis shaft and scrotum dried a bit and started to peeled off. Especially on the penis skin peeled off in tiny round pieces, so it may be that my primary outbreak just happens to cause pain but less visual symptoms. Can't really say that I have had any blisters, even though skin has been very sore and red earlier.

Well, let's see what happens. Thanks.

Herpes causing symptoms all the time like this would be very unusual.  Even though I haven't been following your posts I think jumping on the band wagon with the rest of them in saying this isn't herpes is probably a good place to be.  No ibuprofen doesn't cause herpes to get "worse" or anything.

I know it's very frustrating but continuing to follow up with this with medical professionals is the best idea. Also repeating your blood test won't really give you any answers either. Even if it does come back as hsv1+ there's no way to tell if it's an oral infection ( the vast majority of folks with hsv1 orally don't get obvious cold sores to know it ) or even if it was something you already had and the first test just didn't pick up on it.  A lesion culture of active symptoms is the only accurate way to detect hsv1 genitally.
