I get sores at the base of my spine, but no where else...

How likely is it that I can give herpes to a partner during unprotected sex if I only ever break out on my hips/base of spine? I understand you can still shed the virus at any time, but I want to give an accurate risk assessment to my partner. I do not get sores on my genitals.

my understanding is that the transmission must be from the site of infection -- that is, if the sores appear on your back, you cannot transmit them through gential (genital)/genital contact.

so I would think the same basic rules would apply here: avoid allowing your partner to have sexual contact with your affected areas when you are having an outbreak, otherwise don't worry about it.
