I needed help concerinng syphilis test results

During the end of october i had a promiscuous sexual encounter and tested positive for chlamydia and got treated for that already. I also had blood tests done. The T. Pallidum PA Reflex came back non reactive yet my rpr came back reactive (out of range) and my titer came back with a 1:1 ratio. The doctor told me I for sure do not have syphilis and another doctor that I saw told me that I might have it. I was hoping that I for sure do not have syphilis since I read up information that the TPPA is a follow up for a positive or reactive rpr. I just need ease of mind to know that I do not have syphilis. The doctor that told me that I for sure don't have syphilis said that i might just have some other auto-immune problem.

Syphilis is spread by direct contact with a syphilis sore. It is rare in developed countries like in America we had about 20,000 new cases last year which is very low conpared to all the other STD's. And yes for the most part it is in the homosexual community and bi-sexual community.

& yes my hiv test came back nonreactive too & I definitely will be re-testing in due time, i just wanted peace of mind with this. i may be overly paranoid cause i also read that syphilis is rather rare & is mostly confined to the homosexual community?

Thanks so much for your help. If you do not mind I would appreciate your opinion for one more question. On a thread I read a  response posted by "auntiejessie, AJ" that syphillis is not spread through semen but  is spreadthrough sexual skin to skin contact. My first exposure to sexual skin to skin contact via unprotected sex was May 2009 while my first exposure to semen(by the same partner and also unprotected) was October 2009. I guess my direct question is if Aj was correct in saying that syphilis "can not be transmitted through semen" and is transmitted by skin to skin contact. Is that so

Yeah, I would not worry about it. Maybe in 6 months or so get another test just to see.

Yeah my titer was 1:1, rpr was reactive, and the result fort pallidum-pa was non-reactive; both doctors seemed optimistic and the first said I do not have syphilis while the second said i shouldn't lose sleep over it. I hope I'm okay to think I should be allright?

1:1 is a very low number and could indicate an older infection that has been treated. Or your 1 Dr could be right and it could be something auto-immune, but I can't really speak to that.

A new syphilis infection normally gives you something like a 1:6 or higher.
