I probably have Chlamydia/Gonorrhea, could I have infected wife?

I received unprotected oral sex from a sex worker.  My first and only time doing something that insanely stupid.  The next week I had a sore throat (unrelated) and went to my doctor and was given a prescription for amoxicillin.  I began taking the amoxicillin 10 days after the encounter.  15 days after the encounter while still taking the amoxicillin, I had sex with my wife.  We had sex twice that night, the only time since the encounter.  The next week my doctor switched me to clarithromycin for my throat.  27 days after the encounter while still taking clarithromycin for my throat infection, I began to have symptoms for chlamydia/gonorrhea.  I have not had any discharge or pain/burning while urinating but I have had pain/tickle in my urethra after urination along with pain while driving??  I went to my doctor and he swabbed me for a test for which he has not received the results from yet.  I do not have a UTI and the doctor thought it may be unlikely that I could have developed chlamydia or gonorrhea with the antibiotics I was on.  I am more concerned at this point about having passed it to my wife.  What are the chances I did given I was on amoxicillin at the time? Thanks.

You have little to worry about and your symptoms are unlikely to be due to an STD.  Few STDs are spread by oral sex.  For all practical purposes, chlamydia is not spread by receipt of oral sex and gonorrhea occurs but is uncommon.  Even if you got gonorrhea, amoxycillin would be expected to cure over half of gonorrhea cases.  I agree with yor doctor, it is quite unlikely that you got an STD from your expsoure.  Your tests should be back in a day or two and they will be negative.  Your wife is not in danger. In the Dr's form you can not jump onto someone elses thread and post a question for the Dr. You have to start a new thread and there is a fee for the Dr's to answer the question.

You can visit the STD community where average people with knowledge on STD can help answer your questions and you can go into the search field and look that way because chances are this question has been asked and answered several times.
