IgM False Negative Herpes

by michael13, Oct 10, 2007 05:53PM
I had a IgM Herpes test 11 days post exposure and it came back negative. I know the doc on the forum doesent believe in the IgM but the testing facitily ensured me that i had nothing to worry about.  Does anyone have any info on false negatives for this test?  thanks in advance for your responses.

Although IgM isn't recommended for herpes testing, a negative result is still reassuring.  If I'm not mistaken, the problem with IgM is that it can show a false positive when you're not actually infected.  But a negative result is a good indicator.  If you're still worried, I'd still get tested at 4 months using an IgG blood test.

I also tested IGM negative, but I have heard not everyone (in fact, many) do not produce the IGM antibodies right away.  They may not get produced any faster than IGG.  For this reason, I am not reassured, as I have been having some strange symptoms...

I also just tested negative for both types of HSV through an IgM test.  The first time I had sex with this girl that could have given it to me was October 1st, however, I didn't have any symptoms until November 5th  (almost 4 weeks) after that.  My doctor told me that if I had something, it would have been in the blood and that it was probably a bacterial infection, but I'm still unsure.  The sore/sores have since pretty much healed today November 18th.  Do you think this test is reasonable?
