Ciprofloxacin has no effect on syphilis; that blood test will be negative. But there is no realistic chance you have syphilis anyway; and syphilitic sores are painless, unlike canker sores. Cipro would cure gonorrhea and probably chlamydia if you had either one, and would make such tests negative.
That will wind up this thread. Take care. Do your best to ignore any and all concerns and thoughts about any STD that may come to mind. There simply is no chance, unless you have been exposed through events other than the one described above.
Ok, I know its been awhile with this but I went to the Dr. awhile ago had a urine culture which showed no bacteria or WBCs, was prescribed Cipro 500mg for 5 days, twice a day just in case before results were in. The Cipro did alleviate the symptoms only temporarily, and I have an appointment with a Urologist as I now suspect Prostitis. I did a full STD screen during the end of the Cipro treatment, my question being could Cipro interfere with the test results of say like Syphilis? With it being bacterial? Also a syphilis chancer on your mouth would be different from a cold sore correct?
Not knowing for sure what's going on, I hesitate to predict how long your symptoms might last. If my guess is correct that anxiety is simply magnifying inconsequential symptoms or normal body sensations, then it may last until you achieve emotional equanimity. There are no known infections from non-STD bacteria that could result from the sexual event described. It is conceivable you have a bacterial UTI unrelated to that event, although your symptoms are not typical (intermittent, with no description of urinary urgency or small urine volumes) and UTIs are rare in men, especially if you're not over 40-45, when prostate problems become common.
If the symptoms persist, especially if you think you have gotten beyond the sexual guilt and anxiety, you should see your personal physician. For the reasons above, I predict nothing will be found - but that result should provide additional reassurance.
Ok, 2 more questions.
Is it possible to get a non STD bacteria in there that would cause symptoms as well? But not show up as a UTI?
And how long roughly should it take to clear up on it's own? It's already been 3 1/2 weeks since I noticed it. Should I do any thing special to help it clear faster? No sex, cranberry juice ect?
Awesome thank you, feeling better already! I am aware of my obsessiveness and guilt playing a factor in things, but a little reassurance goes a long way thank you.
Extremely rare if it occurs at all. In my 4 decades in the STD business, I have never seen such a case.
Is skin to skin transfer common in situations like this? Or extremely rare? And Thank you, for your quick reply and advice to my situation.
I saw this comment before I replied above.
Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.
It reallly isn't possible to catch any STD by hand-genital contact. Theoretically it could happen for some of the skin-to-skin infections, like herpes or HPV, but certainly not with any STD likely to cause urethral infection (chlamydia, gonorrhea, NGU). And sexually acquired urethritis rarely causes symptoms like yours, without discharge. The timing of your symptoms is also more consistent, as you seem to suspect yourself, with physical irritation resulting from the vigorous episode with your wife. And the intermittent nature of your symptoms also is against any infection as the cause. Most or part of the problem may be simply that anxiety over the hand job massage, and fear of infecting your wife with something, is magnifying trivial symptoms or normal body sensations that you would otherwise ignore or wouldn't notice. As for the diarrhea, I think that's entirely unrelated to any of this -- just a coincidence.
Of course if your symptoms continue or you otherwise remain concerned, see a doctor or clinic for professional evaluation. But I really don't think you have anything to worry about; I expect your symptoms to clear up on their own.
I hope this has helped. Best wishes-- HHH, MD
To clarify the diarrhea happend prior to the urethra irritation, and it never burns while I'm urinating.
