Is it too early to detect?

by rommel0824, Oct 25, 2007 03:17PM
I had unprotected sex on Oct 20, 2007. I have been having vaginal discharge before that, but I decided to see a doctor to check if I have bacterial vaginosis. I saw a doctor on Oct23. He checked the sample through the microscope and  he saw bacterial vaginosis, but also suspected trichomoniasis. So he sent the test to the lab and decided to check for other STDs like gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis ,HIV and others. He called me today Oct 25 and told me that all the tests for STDS came out negative except trichomoniasis, which I suspected I had. HIV test was not ready yet.
I am worried that it was too eraly to detect some of the STDs through the blood test, will I have to repeat the tests?

On average it takes about three weeks for a syphilis test to become positive and even longer (6 weeks  on average) for the most widely used blood tests for HIV to become positive.  If you wish to be more certain, I would recommend repeating the blood tests for syphilis and HIV in early December.  In all likelyhood if you had gonorrhea or chlamydial infection those tests would have been positive three days after exposure.
