Is this penile yeast infection, Please help!

40 YO, M, I’m used to getting fungal irritation on my inner thighs after going the beach, I usually apply Lamisil cream once and it goes away, I also had a toe nail fungus a few years ago, I treated it with Lamisil tablets for three month, it took care of it very well.

On the ninth of Jun 2008 I was prescribed Norflaxacin for possible post ureteroscopy infection/pain.

On the 17/Jul/08 I had my very first –supposed- penile yeast infection (last sexual intercourse around 25-Jun-08?), saw a GP, he looked at it and prescribed one tablet of fluconazole 150 and Lotrisone cream for 14 days, it cleared it well..

On the 11/Sep/09 I was prescribed Ciprofloxacin for another infection (urine analysis showed bacteria), during which I developed what seemed like slight thrush on the middle of my tongue (still have it, didn’t get any worst).

Around the 15/Sep/08 I developed what seemed like another yeast infection (irritated by masturbation, the last time I had anything sexual to date.) around the edge of my penis’s head and edge of foreskin, on the 18/09/08 took another tablet of fluconazole 150 and started using the Lotrisone cream again for around a couple of weeks (calmed it but didn’t cure it)

On the 23/Sep/08 I noticed what seemed like the beginning of an outbreak of HSV (previous one being almost two years ago) on my penis, took Valtrex for three days, went away in about ten days.

On 02/October/08 after stopping the Lotrisone cream for a day, I noticed what seemed like white creamy discharge on the inner foreskin and redness around the edges of the glans, I used the Lotrisone cream and it immediately calmed it down.

On 07/October/08 saw another GP, was advised to switch from Lotrisone to Pevaril cream twice a day for 13 days, it calmed the irritation well.

Strangely my penis head’s color looked more normal a couple of days after stopping the Pevaril cream than while I was using the cream.

Then on the 29/October/08 I felt slight tingling/itching around the edges of the glans of my penis it seemed redder in color, flaky and very irritated with little cuts like around the edges, I had to restart Pevaril just to stop the irritation.

Characteristics:

1) The only affected area is around and behind edges of glans and edge of foreskin
2) There is no smell from affected area, when dry & if rubbed it can produce dry white stuff.
3) When irritated the glans edges can get swollen
4) The effected area is always marked by the outline of the covering foreskin (redness).
5) No internal discharge
6) No burning sensation during urination.
7) The tip of the glans seems unaffected, as the foreskin never reaches it.
8) There is no itching or discomfort once the cream is applied.

Is this a Yeast Infection, if not what could it be please?
Why isn’t it going away?

I would appreciate any thought you may offer.

Kind regards,
Carlos.

They might, but fluconazole and Pevaryl work best on yeast, and lotrisone works best on jock itch.  There are other fungal infections, and this might also be something like dermatitis or eczema, which is why I think you should get this cultured or biopsied.

Auntie Jessi,

Many, many thanks for your kind response.

If it were another type of fungus wouldn’t all these meds (fluconazole 150 and Lotrisone x 2 and Pevaryl) cure it by now?

Isn’t yeast the same as fungus, are there deferent types of fungus that require deferent types of meds?

Please keep up the great work.

Kind regards.
Carlos.

It could be a yeast infection, but might also be something else fungal, and you might need a different cream.

You should have one of your doctors culture or biopsy the area and do a sensitivity test to find out what it is exactly, and what med will cure it.

Once you find out exactly what it is, and get the best meds, you should use it for a couple of weeks past the time when symptoms disappear, to make sure its gone.
