Itchy red bumps throughout entire pubic hair region

Hello,

First of all, some context:  I go on week-long wilderness trips very regularly for work, and my girlfriend does the same.  Neither of us probably change underwear as often as would be optimal.  I was tested before we started dating about a year ago and came back negative for the common testables plus HSV 2.  She was tested and came back negative for all the commonly tested STD's, but I don't believe they did an HSV 2 blood test.  She has a pretty modest sexual history...she's from a small town and has had fewer than 5 sexual partners I think, and has used protection except with two long term boyfriends.  We've been having sex without a condom for probably 6 months.

About 2 months ago I noticed a relatively painless red area on my penis head.  I went and got checked out, but the doctor said it didn't look like anything serious, and to maybe try putting some hydrocortizone cream on the affected area if I felt like it.  This spot faded away with time and application of hydrocortizone cream.  About a month later, during oral sex, my penis head felt a little bit raw, and upon inspection I noticed that the same area was red again.  It was a light red color and felt slightly tender.  Four days later, while I was in the woods, my pubic hair area felt itchy.  When I examined it, I found a bunch of little red bumps with whiteheads that would pop easily.  These little dots were just about everywhere my pubic hair grows, but there were none my actual penis.  Today is two weeks from the initial date I noticed the original red dots, and there are still some itchy red dots in different spots, but they don't look quite so bad.  They seem to pop up randomly at random points in my pubic hair region...I've noticed them just about everywhere I have pubic hair, and nowhere else.

A couple days before this, my girlfriend reported that her vagina was itchy on the inside.  I think this lasted about a week for her.  She and a friend who is a nurse believed they identified her issue as a yeast infection.

Also, the night before I noticed the itchy red dots, I slept on a futon that many people have slept on (the joke is that it has fleas).  I literally put a tarp over the futon though, and slept in a sleeping bag over the tarp, so I was thinking it unlikely that I would get any sort of lice or anything from that.

Could this be a yeast rash for me, or does it sound like something else?

Thanks so much for your help.

-E

Thanks for the reply.  I assumed that it was follicle irritation at first, but the red spots didn't seem to match where the hair grew from, and it's lasted longer and been itchier than folliculitis I've experienced before.  Perhaps I'm just having trouble finding the hairs that correspond with the dots or something, it's sort of hard to tell.

Thanks again for the help.

Hello E

There is NO STD to be worried for here.  The spots are just probably some inflamed hair follicles.  Nothing to worry about.   The rash on the penis may have been just some simple irritation.  Really nothing to worry about.

Tell your Gf to see her provider for the vaginal itch which might be nothing more than yeast infection which is common.

Practice safe sex and be safe.
