Jock Itch, Scabies or Herpes

by tarheel30, Mar 30, 2008 07:34AM
Dear Sir,

I am very nervous.  I noticed a raised set of bumps on the right side of my crotch region.  These bumps only itch when I get hot or active.  Some bumps are more raised than others.  I have no burning sensation when I urinate and the bumps are not forming on my penis.  I itched one of the bumps and it broke open and bled.  Over night it swelled larger than the other bumps. I plan on going to my physician tomorrow I was just hoping you could prep me as to what to expect.  I do not feel that the bumps I have look like the bumps for genital warts or herpes.  I have protected sex with a partner who has been tested recently and is clean.  The bumps I have look like the pictures in scabies and jock itch.  Is there anything I can look for to tell the difference between these curable sti's or the more serious stds?

Hi there -

This isn't the doctor's forum.

You could absolutely have jock itch, but you should get it checked before trying any over the counter treatments.  If its something else, those creams could make things worse.

Also, don't put ANY creams on it before you get to the doc.  Creams can make it change in appearance, and make it harder to diagnose, or culture if needed.

At the top of this page, you will see the link for forums.  That will take you to a list of all the forums.  The member forums are on the left, the expert/doctor ones are on the right.  Click on STDs on the right side, and then click where it says post a question.

I don't know when it will be answered - I don't know if they answer on Sundays.  It also costs $15 to ask a question to the docs.
