Liklihood of Spreading to Someone else

Liklihood of Spreading to Someone else

I have known I had Genital Warts for several years, but have not a break out since I first found out about it.  I recently had unprotected sex with a new partner.  I figured we were okay b/c of the long period of time since I had broken out.  I was wondering the liklihood of him getting this disease.  There is also another factor in this.  I am a female that "squirts" quite a bit of liquids when I orgasim.  Can this disease be spread  through my fluids through oral or vaginal sex?  What is the liklihood of me having another break out?  And is there anyway to check and see if he did in fact get this if he does not have a break out?

Thank You.

While it is possible that some human papillomavirus (HPV) infections persist for years, the large majority go away, and the chance is low that you still are carrying the virus.  Your immune system probably has cured you.

Any risk of transmitting HPV comes mostly from rubbing or "massaging" the virus into a partner's genital skin or mucous membranes; having virus in genital secretions would not raise the risk of transmission any higher than it already is.  But it's a moot point, since you probably aren't still infected with HPV.  There is no test to be sure, but I wouldn't worry about it.  Anyway, don't feel like you're unusual:  Over 80% of us catch genital HPV at one time or another.

Good luck--  HHH, MD
