Lots of mixed symptoms, but no help so far

by lawdog2020, Sep 29, 2006 12:00AM
I am a 24 year old straight male. I am having similar problems, but I can not get a straight answer from anyone and different things keep happening.

Here is the time line: 1 month ago I had protected sex (no oral sex) w/ a stranger (only for a minute, because i had second thoughts). Two days later, stricken w/ fear, but no symptoms, I went to the public health department. All tests came back negative.

Two days later I got a rash on the insides of my thighs that went all the way back to my anus, and on my scrotum (fealt more like a heat rash). The rash did not itch and there was no pain, it just made me sweat a lot and it made the skin "sticky". The next day my lower back began to hurt. I looked up symptoms and found herpes. I dont know if it was because of a hang over, or anxiety, or because I really had herpes, but I started to feel flu like symptoms.

Two weeks ago all symptoms seemed to disapear, but my back still hurts, scrotum still fealt warm and "sticky" and my testicles were very sore. I also had upper abdominal pains 5 times a day for 30 minute intervals. I went to a doctor and he told me that w/ out sores, he could not diagnose herpes, and my problems might be due to bacteria. He prescribed an antibiotic and sent me on my way.

I have not been having the stomach pains anymore, and my testicles are not sore either. I think I am still having heat on my scrotum, but maybe a 'lil more mild.
Four-five days ago I noticed one very small blister in the corner of my lips and didnt pay any attention to it, but now i have patches of very small flesh colored bumps on my top lip (too small to see unless really close up and lips are streched). They are not really getting bigger, and they do not hurt or itch. The blister in the corner has not crusted over, but I am using Abreva on my lips. Yesterday I noticed that my skin under my nose, and on my forehead are very sensitive, and sometimes red. One of my eyes has been a little itchy.

I want to go get the blood test for herpes, but the nurse that I called told me to wait 60 days. That would mean that I need to wait 30 more days.

Atlast, here are my questions:
1) Do you think I have genital and/or oral herpes?
2) If I am getting a break out on my face, why didn't
I get a break out on my genitals (not that im
complaining)
3) When should I worry that I have eye herpes?
4) What is this thin, irritated skin on my forehead?
5) Should I go to the doctor and get some anti-viral
medication as a precaution?
6) How long can these pre-herpes symptoms (ie.
lower back pain, rash in groin) last?
7) Why don't my lips itch or hurt and why hasn't the tiny blister crusted up yer? (i guess i am asking how long can the blisters last before crusting up?)
8) Could the antibiotics have triggered these facial problems?

None of your symptoms suggests herpes or any other STD.  Anyway, since you had protected sex, any STD is very unlikely.  Anxiety sounds like a good bet for most of your symptoms.  In any case, no online source can come up with an accurate assessment when in-person evaluation by other providers hasn't been successful in doing so.

1) No, this doesn't sound like herpes of any body site.  2) I cannot answer why you have symptoms at any particular part of your body.  3) You give no reason to be concerned about herpes of the eye.  4) I cannot diagnose a skin rash I cannot see.  5) You don't need antiviral therapy.  But if your symptoms continue, you need to continue with medical care and follow your provider's advice about diagnosis and treatment.  6) Those symptoms do not sound like "pre herpes".  7) Who knows?  Probably because you don't have herpes.  8) I cannot guess at the cause of your skin problems.

Good luck--  HHH, MD

I also wanted to comment that I have this icyhot sensation in my scrotum and penis.  I have read many posts from people with the same problem.  Are we all imagining these symtoms, or is it possible that we all have a new form of std that isnt know about yet??? please doc, what is going on with the "icy hot" sensations?

I don't know what might be causing that symptom.  I suppose any number of scrotal skin conditions could do it; or, if the skin looks normal, stress or anxiety would be a good bet.  No STD causes such a symptom, however--and that's where my expertise ends.
